Nacho can be comically poor; first touch, ball retention, holdup play, passing... all basic stuff you would have thought. He can quickly turn attack into defence. BUT, he somehow manages to score, some comically, some crackers. He's a right old mixed bag, that's for sure. I can understand why BR might have reservations.

Honestly if someone has the time to stitch together a highlights package I reckon you'll see him lose possession due to poor touch/being weak about 10-15 times in the first 45 lol

Impressed he hit the target for the opener though

According to stats He made more passes with an higher pass completion then Tielemans, he had one bad control but so did half the team as well apart from Daka who had 8

Why was he hooked at HT? Thought he was our best player at the time. One of a few bizarre subs from Brendan today

It was the right sub.

Rodgers got his team selection all wrong and wasted 45 minutes.

He then adjusted it at half time and regained control....

Then surrendered it again when he brought Maddison on.

He was very good for most of the first half and I was extremely happy for him to have got the goal, helped our pressure and fast start pay off.

But the final 5-10 mins he was terrible. Gave the ball away in dangerous positions and some of the passes and moves were breaking down because of him.

He frustrated me after his goal. He started off poor by making some silly passes including that daft attempted chip pass into our CB!

After he scored he looked pumped and I was expecting to see him grow confidence and go at it but instead I saw a player lose the ball on numerous occasions or constantly passing backwards.

I don’t rate him but I’ll always get behind a player even if they frustrate the hell out of me and it’s a shame after he scored a great goal I was left feeling frustrated with him again.

I was gonna say, the last two games I've watched Tielemans lose the ball more than any player I reckon.

Evans gave the ball away twice easily last night too which was very unlike him.

I reckon we're locked in as a unit with this mantra of keeping possession and playing out from the back. Sometimes you just want someone to put their foot through and then we can reset defensively.  But no, we play ourselves into trouble.

One of Youri's strengths, as a rule, is to quickly assess a situation and if there is not a safe pass on, he retains possession and draws a foul.

We created so many of our own problems last night because we couldn't deal with their press, and gave the ball away. It's something we struggle with generally. A much less technically gifted side than Napoli can peg us back through simple energy and application. And we don't seem to learn.

I imagine he did, we sat even deeper in the second half. He passed the ball out of play once and I'm not even exaggerating when he's lost the ball over 10 times. Every time he touches the ball he's in an immediate fight for the second ball because his first touch is so woeful lol

In the interest of balance, his positives ffor me were; the goal, the work for Harveys shot and a nice interception.

I think it was the right move to take Perez off for Tielemans in theory as it was becoming a "basketball game" which is what Rodgers loathes as he likes his team to control the game and maintain possession. And Napoli were hurting us on the flanks.

But the problem was Tielemans was poor by his high standards. A decent performance by Tielemans and we would have likely won that game as he would have given us more control in midfield. His performance was summed up by that terrible free kick.

My preference for the right is Ricardo and Castagne together, or moving to a diamond, as our right side is exposed more with Perez in the team, especially when alongside Castagne as Ricardo seems to be able to get further up the pitch to impose himself more on the opposition full back, so they're less able double up against us. It's why Albrighton is a safe plan B as he always puts a shift in defensively, allowing the full back to get forward.

Not the biggest fan of Perez but after a shaky start I thought he played well, put a shift in defensively and scored a cracking goal, Napoli are a top class team with top class players in every position…

I thought he deserved to stay on for the 2nd half but I must admit that Tielemans coming on seemed a great idea but unfortunately he didn’t have his best game…

I’m surprised that Newcastle United have not tried to buy Perez back. Do you think they would swop ASM for Perez plus money or plus Prat and Perez and money?

Despite lacking the awareness for that corner that evaded their keeper and would have been 1-0 to us if he'd bundled it on target and then that heinous left footed hack when Daka was through on goal, I actually thought he wasn't that bad last night.

Ayoze thread sat about 10 down after a match day where he missed the target with a one on one, against a 19 year old, on his debut, by about 6 yards.

Things must be bad for him to only have 2 posts lol

Those 2 moments were atrocious. If someone simply misses a chance then hey ho - that's just what happens sometimes. But they way he missed both those chances was just due to weird, lack of basic technique on how to stand or run properly. Atrocious stuff
