Not gelled yet - quite some way off - but fourth in the PL, into the next round of the cup, still unbeaten.

Might be worth saving the panic for a little later down the line.

This sums it up. At the moment we're a there or thereabouts team - easy to imagine us between 7th and 12th. But, if we click attacking wise, you can see us at least worrying the established top 6

The first thing Man City do is work very hard. The amount of running off the Ball they do is insane. Admittedly they also have top players which helps.

Whoever is on the Ball usually has at least two options to pass too. While someone else is making a run off the Ball to confuse defenders.

We still have a lot to learn and to do in this area of the game.

The lack of Goals is something I highlighted in the Summer now it's becoming a problem. We should sign someone on a loan from Europe this week.

Completely agree. Man city have the work ethic and the quality which is why they are where they are today. The way they unlock tight defences with sublime passing and movement is a joy to watch.

Don't get me wrong we can play this system, but we need to be more ruthless and play the killer pass at the right time. That's what they do and for me it's why we dont score as many as we should.

It took Guardiola a year and about 250m to get things right at City mind you

"Are we scoring enough goals?"

Probably not but then again; 3 of our 4 games have been away, we're unbeaten, sat in the top 4 and we got through in the League Cup. Life is good.

Let the season play out, and see what we're doing after a dozen or so games. Leave the over-analysing and Fake-Drama to SkySports and Talksport.

We will get better.

People need to remember what we did to other teams, parking the bus and snatching goals on counter attack.

we beat all the big teams at times and they always still struggle to beat teams doing that.

IMO its no surprise where we are at as first we are creating a sturdy structure against most styles of play then adjust slowly.all teams give different challenges and until you go through them your not going to learn.

Kind of no. We aren't very good at breaking teams down who sit deep. That for sure has been a problem. We don't score much against teams around us. Rodgers, correct me if i'm wrong, has said we need to score more goals, so yeah - we don't score enough goals. BUT we have scored more than enough across the board, otherwise we wouldn't have stayed in the league.

We don't score enough goals, but that's only valid in a certain context. Without which, the words would have no meaning. More importantly, i've just farted. Poo, it really smells.

I've gone and grabbed some data from all the games so far in the Prem.

From the data, in 3 games we have taken an average of 2 shots on target per game, which is the joint-lowest number in the league so far, and 12.67 shots total per game, which is the 8th most in the league - which is also the worst shot accuracy in the league, with only 16% of our total shots being on target. Which is all honestly a bit statistically insignificant, being only 3 games in, and with the difference in teams played (I'd like to look back at this 19 games in!), as well as not really telling us anything we haven't already seen, but I thought it might be interesting to find out just where we were in comparison to all the other teams so far in the league. Even so, it's not great reading so far - and the Newcastle game's 10 shots, 1 on target scans with the data's trend as well. It's clear something isn't clicking at the moment, whether it's the new formation and systems or something else - but there have been signs, like 2nd half versus Chelsea that we can get to a place where we play good stuff, and I think we'll get somewhere near there by a month or so.

The bright spark though (other than being unbeaten ofc), is that whilst stingy in the creation of chances, we've also been one of the best in the league in terms of reducing shots conceded - facing on average 10 shots per game, and 3.3 shots on target per game; the 6th best record for shots, and joint 5th for shots on target. Whilst we do need to work on going forward, we've at least had a pretty stable defensive unit. If we can work on the former whilst keeping up the latter, we'll be golden - and hopefully that'll come with more games!

We have Bournemouth at the weekend - who score pretty highly in both shots taken, and conceded - so that'll be a very good indicator as to where we are, if we can remain sturdy in defence and take advantage of their defensive frailties, then hopefully we can start showing a lot more bite going forward!

We're trying to play like man city or classic arsenal without the same quality players. Maybe we need more self belief but this is exactly the same issue puel had; not enough tempo or penetration.

A lot of dribbling around the box but no penetration

We’ve played three teams who have a five man defence

And we have at least 8 other teams who will employ similar tactics against us.

Exactly, the reality is that in the top flight there will only be a couple of sides per season unable to organise a defence properly. Then it comes down to the extent the game is Attack v Defence - how much does the opposition want to risk attacking.  It’s a growing trend that one team totally dominates possession whilst the other waits to counter attack. This is a football-wide trend: whoever the manager is this is going to be an issue.

When Rodgers came in the talk was of this amazing change with great football being played. The reality is that we carried on putting away the same sorts of teams we were putting away before with the home wins coming against shambolic Fulham and Arsenal sides and a Bournemouth team which had conceded 2 or more in each of their previous 11 away games before they played us. The only team to come with a competent defensive game plan left with a 1-0 win.

We’re still hugely reliant on scoring early to bring the opposition onto us. Unfortunately we’ve only scored one first half goal in the last 8 league games and only 5 in the 13 games since Rodgers took over.

If Bournemouth are as open on Saturday as they were in the equivalent fixture last season I’ve no doubt that we’ll beat them comfortably. But if they do come to defend and we don’t score early it’s going to be another long afternoon.

Rodgers will get it right eventually because he’s a good manager operating with good players and an improvement on the previous manager for sure. But for all the talk of a revolution in the playing style since he was appointed, in attacking situations we’re seeing the same failings and limitations as we saw over the previous 18 months.

Not been enough games yet and Chelsea aside every team we've played had essentially been 5 at the back and sat in trying to defend with attacking as a second thought. Not every team will be like that.

We've needed a target man for trying to break these teams down for a while now though. A striker to hold the ball up in front of the area and lay people off/with strength in the air. However we don't seem to get linked to any since we bought slimani.

We aren't going to score enough with a system that plays two CDMs and Maddison on the left, that was proven in Puels reign. Hopefully Rodgers sees this and rectifies it soon though I'm unsure why he's making this mistake because its the same mistake that got Puel sacked. This team can't play with 2 CDMs in a possession style and score enough goals.

I think you will find that Rodgers wanted a steady, secure start to our season. 3 away games in 4 games is tough no matter who you play. We are providing ourselves a platform and growing steadily into our stride.

Might be wrong (I never am but you know, first time for everything) but I’m expecting a different lineup Saturday. I think we may be more adventurous.

Instead of a thread entitled 'Are we scoring enough goals? ' what about a new thread entitled 'Are we starting enough dumbass threads about any old bollox?'

I totally agree with you pal and what I'm going to say next I hope gets me a permanent ban.

Only 3 fkn league games and one league cup game and this forum is saturated with this shite.

We're undefeated and 4th in league, which yes is crazy for 5 points but hardly poor, progressed in the cup so not lost any.

Rodgers is obviously still rotating personnel and tweaking formations yet a sample size of 3 league and 1 cup game is enough for some of you impatient and entitled morons to spout the crap you do.

3 fkn league games and after Saturday it's an expected to be difficult run where some of you FIFA educated w ankers will become intollerable, god help us and please fkn ban me please.

Before anyone says we have a right to our opinions and concerns blah blah blah, you're right ,this is mine about yours. Also I could just not read the forum and impose a self exile, however that would not be as satisfying as getting this off my chest, sadly this site is being ruined by negative, impatient and moronic fans who seem to get great pleasure from moaning about anything and everything and after so few games.

I will miss the measured and thoughtful posters and gems like @StriderHiryu but the rest of you can fvck right off.

The world is stressful enough right now, so you have my total sympathy.
