Brexit!

Leave won. Leave without a deal did not.

The problem (for both sides) is that there was only a single word on the ballot paper in 2016. “Leave”. No-one owns Brexit and no-one has a mandate to  say that we should leave either with or without a deal.

The closest thing we have to an mandate is the Conservative Party 2017 manifesto commitment to an ‘orderly Brexit’. That’s what people voted for. That’s what “won”!

Tbf if you want to use the Conservative party 2017 manifesto, it also said that no deal is better than a bad deal iirc. MPs have subsequently rejected that deal as a bad deal, so......:dunno:

A quick question Jon, one that I've been looking for an answer for before...in the world as it exists today, do you believe the falling apart of the EU is desirous and why?

Because Nationalism.

The answer to all thee customs problems is to have big bar-codes on top of the lorries and massive scanners they drive through, then a few coppers up the road nicking any thing dodgy. That would also have got rid of the need for a hard border in Ireland as well. What do i know though, i'm just employed to come up with technological solutions!

Anna Soubry is very surprisingly against a general election - as a Conservative she got a majority of 863, she now leads a party polling at 0%.

Did I hear someone say "sit down darling" to Jo Swinson? What a sorry bunch the majority of them are. IDS seems particularly odious.

I thought I heard something similar (sit down love). We can't both have dodgy hearing??

When you allege something like this, but come up with two words that mean the same, but sound entirely different (not even the same number of syllables)... doesn't exactly ring true.

I'm probably guilty as hearing what I want to hear and seeing what I want to see - but do I sense a tiny gear shift of public mood on the leaver side to (at last) recognise this government as a bunch of extreme right wing lunatics?

The Rees Mogg slobbing photo. Bojos uninspiring performance at the despatch box. The armed police sacking of a minor Downing Street aide. The expelling of 80s thatcherite  Ken Clarke and 'Winston Churchill's grandson':. An icon that even the most ardent of colonel blimp leavers approve of.

The more I watch of this, the more I come to dislike Bojo and his new bunch of clowns.  Ken Clarke sees straight through him, I see straight through him, but will the people see straight through him in a GE?  Probs not 'cos they'll vote Tory like they always do, despite the clown in charge

"After a couple of weeks... or months"

Not really very reassuring, is it?

It’s **** all time mate.  Not the crashing out disaster we keep hearing about!

Political tribalism is one if the most frustrating things.

For both main parties, the leaders could kill a bag full of puppies live on TV, and people would still vote for their party because "oh, I always have".

Well this has been a very full 2-days of politics action.

So action-packed in fact Johnson’s outshone his Orange stateside doppelgänger.

But could Johnson have made a key mistake - by concealing what he really wanted (no-deal and an election) until forced - he’s emphasised what the opposition parties will attack him for.

Trustworthiness is a big factor in deciding elections. If he’s further cemented in the swing electorate’s minds that he’s a man who’s loose with the truth, he may end up losing as many votes as he picks up from staunch Brexiters.
