Voll Blau Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Mad to think the majority of people are more up for finishing 4th than actually winning tangible silverware and having the feeling you can only get from that. Didn't we used to take the piss out of Spurs for their ridiculous hollow boasts despite having nowt to show for it? Plus, we could actually win the Europa League and the away game potential is far more interesting anyway.

All joking aside, there is a lot of Eastern Europe and random other European teams that have good potential. It's a tough choice, I went for Top 4 due to being in the CL and the financial benefit as well as power to hold/buy players. In an ideal world we would win the FA Cup, win the EL in 2020/21 and then play CL in 2021/22!
foxy boxing Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Win a cup and Europa League qualification maybe!. would be great to be in the Champions League again but no one will be able to take a cup win away from us ever.
treer Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 did tou see what europa league done for Burnley last year?, and is doing to Wolves this year? What comp we dont wont. 4th or below 7th, and a cup, without EL

For me as a supporter, that all means nothing unless there are trophies to show for it at the end of it all though. Otherwise, what was the point? I'll snap your hand off for the scenario you're offering though, although I'd rather we won the European Cup in 2022 as well.

I desperately want the FA Cup over everything else. Just to say I've seen us pretty much win the lot. We still get European football out of it as well.
Fox92 Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Cup any day of the week. Sport is about winning and any silverware is a superb addition to the club's history. I can't believe top 4 is leading the poll.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 I'm surprised top 4 is winning tbh, how many of us have slagged spurs for just being worried about top 4 and not winning anything? We've got one of the best squads we'll most likely have to some time, time to use this to make history rather than spread ourselves thin

Appreciate it's a logistical pain but imagine literally watching Leicester in Kazakhstan
oxtonfox Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 I think the best we can hope for is 3rd in the league and to win both Cup competitions. Yes, I think that would be acceptable.

We don’t have a squad that you’d expect to finish top 4 but with Champions League football we can attract better players, add depth to the squad which will allow us to challenge for cups on a more regular basis. Can we though? We didnt exactly attract better players when we won the league , champions league football only helps when you've established yourself within that bracket. Even with Champions league football, we would still be a risk for a higher tier calibre of player that we cant attract now
lee7 Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 I think based purely on the fact that finishing in the top 4 seems to be a big draw for most players that i'd go with that. Its the best chance we have to keep hold of our better players aswell.

Just because we finish top 4 we don't automatically attract great players, similarly to when we won the league, we're still Leicester City. See the Maguire transfer - Man Utd are pathetic at the minute but players want to play for the club with all that history and at that ground.
Stadt Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Realistically, it's unlikely we're going to get beyond the quarters if were to get into Champions League again, Sevilla at home as great as it was isn't better than a cup win. Personally, I'd quite like to play in the Europa League before we get into CL again (ideally)

I think that's a fair point but you need good league finishes to keep attracting better players. Another year in Europe (and a reasonably good campaign) would be beneficial in attracting players, even if it we can never really compete with the biggest clubs.

We've got one of the best squads we'll most likely have to some time, time to use this to make history rather than spread ourselves thin We already have the best silverware you can win in this country though so there's one obvious difference. Adding the FA Cup to the cabinet is obviously something we all want and I expect to see us make a good fist of it this year, also if we were talking about the Leicester of old where a good cup run was about the best we could hope for then I'd agree the FA Cup takes priority. We're attempting to build a team that can consistently challenge at the highest level though so our league position should - and will - always be of utmost importance because that's how you attract the players to reinforce our position and make a good FA Cup run even more viable. Instead of ranking them against each other, I'd rate each individual competition's importance on a scale of 1-10. If we want to be serious contenders then the league should always be at 10, but for me until we win it so is the FA Cup. League Cup's like a 5, more if we get knocked out the FA cup early.
OntarioFox Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 I don't buy the warnings about what Europa "did to Burnley / Wolves" at all, not least as we have a second string more than capable enough of performing in that competition, full of good players who would treat it as extra minutes and a chance to muscle into the EPL squad. Our "second string" is quality. There are a few names I want to see push on from yesterday against Luton and make the case for their increased inclusion, most notably Justin and Iheanacho, and an additional competition surely gives us more opportunity to keep the wider squad sharp, rather than impacting on our league performance. Slot in a few "first XI" players and we've got a quality squad more than capable of competing in Europe while maintaining performances in the league. And, of course, I wouldn't expect us to focus on domestic cup games if we were in Europe, so it gives us a chance to blood academy products in those meaningful games too while rotating the squad and getting more chances to see those on the fringes make their case for a place in the Saturday XI. I only see it as a win to be in the Europa League. It's just what our wider squad needs and a realistic chance of silverware too, so it baffles me why anyone would think otherwise.
STUHILL Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 FA CUP hands down for me. Champions League > Cariboooo Cup though. As others have said, what finishing in the top 4 could do for us in terms of revenue and attracting even higher quality of players, not to mention holding onto the likes of Maddison, Soyuncu, Ricardo etc, outweighs winning the lesser Caribao Cup IMO. To win the FA Cup would be incredible though and I would take that and a likely finish of 6th/7th this season.

And like Vol said you're in the EL if you win a Cup anyway
Stadt Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 The problem with Burnley and now Wolves is just that they're shit, not the Europa League
Fox92 Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Just now, Stadt said: The problem with Burnley and now Wolves is just that they're shit, not the Europa League Exactly my thoughts. There's been plenty of half decent sides who have continued to progress while playing both competitions. A decade ago the likes of Blackburn played in the Europa League and still finished 7th in the league. This was when Villa/Everton/Portsmouth as well as the top 4 were all good sides too.
