Gerard Posted 24 September 2019 Posted 24 September 2019 Last season the only English club to get knocked out of Europe by a foreign team was Man Utd by Barcelona in the Champions League QF. Both the Europa League and Champions League were all english affairs. Any English club that qualifies for the CL is a threat to winning it especially with the likes of Bayern, Barcelona, Real and PSG on the downward curve over the last couple of years. It's a big statement if we qualified for the CL twice in four years and our ability to keep and attract players should increase exponentially. I'd love to win a cup but the club's health and stature is much more increased by CL qualification. New foreign players don't give a damn that you won a cup. Stade Rennais won the French Cup last season and I'm sure any English player they wanted to attract doesn't give a damn about it.

Agree with all this, but there's genuinely no reason we can't win the League Cup and finish top 4. We could quite easily get to the semis without playing a full strength team, albeit with luck of the draw.
jayfox26 Posted 24 September 2019 Posted 24 September 2019 The FA cup is something we all crave but champions league football again would be amazing. The cups can always be achievable in any season if you really go for it. Top 4 won't always be achievable if the "big boys" eventually sort their shit out. For me, we absolutely have got to take advantage of spurs, Arsenal, United and Chelsea all being pretty shit. It is like the league winning season again except 2 teams (Liverpool and Man city) are actually doing well. Top 6 is 100% achievable, top 4 I think is potentially up for grabs as things stand. We also dont have the European games to worry about like the other "big 6" do. All out for top 4 this season but give both cups a good go. No doubt we will get Man City in the league cup like we do every fecking year!

urban fox Posted 24 September 2019 Posted 24 September 2019 i want us to win the FA cup so much it hurts but if not i would take top 4 over the league cup. Bloody stupid question really. we want the treble!

As much as a cup win would be amazing, the top 4 brings champions league football and the attraction of huge teams to the KP. We can then attract bigger players and keep hold of our better ones. This. I ain't typing all that when it's what I feel!

Feels like a massive opportunity to break in this year if we're serious about it. I don't want us to write off the cups but the league is priority on this occasion. An FA cup win would be amazing though That's a good point if we're talking about this season then it does seem like a great opportunity to finish top 4 and if we can't do it with 4 of the big 6 misfiring then we never will. Whereas the FA Cup we have an equal chance every year.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Going to be a lot of spares knocking around for the League Cup final by the looks of it...
OntarioFox Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Cup, then win the Europa, then a campaign deep into the Champion's League please. Three years of fun.
murphy Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 I don't understand a lot of the posts in this thread. For me, the FA Cup is the holy grail. Win that and we have the full set. If we won that I wouldn't swap it for a winning lottery ticket presented between Rita Ora's clenched naked buttocks. Football is ultimately about glory. About winning things, not qualifying for things. Wembley, the open top bus, the euphoria and an FA cup in the bank forever. Almost every club of a similar size has got one. Even Cov have got one. No brainer.
norwichfox Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 For me it must be the FA Cup, with a CL spot in the league too (unlikely but I can hope).
grobyfox1990 Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Top 4 without a doubt. FA cup or cowabunga cup have very little prestige these days IMO, it's not the 1970s anymore where players and fans 'dream of lifting a cup.' Yeh it'd be a good day out at Wembley, but that's it, one day. And anyway I had a far better day on May 7 2016 than a cup final could ever provide to me. Champions League would bring multiple great days out around Europe, and lots of money to invest in the long-term future of the club
woddyuk Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Cup if its the FA Cup. Can't believe some of the teams that have their name on it and we don't. Champions league is special but you won't get visas for away games after Oct 31st Seriously though, why choose. Both a cup win and top four is achievable.
Guest Markyblue Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Personally fa cup allways been my dream but for the club the prestige of the champions league would be huge.
gerrytaggart Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 2 cup wins and top 3 in the league please or this season will feel a bit hollow.

Champions League participation is much more lucrative and glorious than a cup win. CL brings the players, the money and the worldwide exposure. Look at how much Spurs have advanced and grown as a club in the last 5 years. Trophyless they are but they are also dining with Europe's elites I voted cup win because we arent a club used to winning silverware. Neither are Spurs hence they always get mocked for not winning anything.
Foxes Blue Blood Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 We don't have to answer that question yet, just carry on with using our squad for the league cup , depending on the draw, good team for league matches and by the time we reach the FA cup match in early January we will have a good idea if we are still on course for a top 4/6 finish. If we can keep most players fit all 3 are achievable.
Foxin_Mad Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Has to be top 4 to hear the champions league music again. Don't really want Europa League either with the crappy Thursday games.
Dan Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 I'd only vote top 4 if it meant we put ourselves into a regular position to challenge for cups in future (and show the kind of attitude we have done so far), but I voted cup. It's actual silverware. That's ultimately the end goal.
Foxin_Mad Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 Both would be best option, but don't know whether its a bridge to far. Would rather the FA Cup but would prefer not to end up in Europa, its just a drain on the team means every fixture would be moved.

I would love an FA cup win Those European CL nights though, pitching yourself against the best in Europe was a dreamland for us 16/17 and I’d give my right arm to experience it again with this team… financially I’m guessing they’re not in the same ball park?
Spudulike Posted 25 September 2019 Posted 25 September 2019 As a veteran of both 1974 and 1982 semi finals I really need to see us win the FA Cup before I hang up my scarf. That said, it's not the same since the Twin Towers were demolished and it lost a major part of its magic during the Cardiff years. Still need to win it to complete the set though and would put it above finishing top 4.
