AFCON being moved back to January

Recommended Posts

Losing Wilf will be problematic as we've seen... :(

Losing Nacho could also be a problem. He's been in and out of the Nigeria squad, but if he continues playing well for us (meaning we need him) he will likely get called up.

At least we can make AFCON jokes again.

I think teams will think twice before buying African players or at least limit the amount of African players on the team.

Jan/Feb is probably the toughest part of the schedule & probably the part of the year when titles & relegations get decided.

Are Nigeria in this? What's the squad? Is Kelechi in it?

Well, at least it's funny imagining what Klopp will do without his two goalscorers!

Missing Salah and Mane would be great albeit a year too late.

Nigeria usually qualify (apart from that one time they didn't a few years ago) . Kelechi has been in and out of the squad but will likely get in if he continues getting the game time and goals that he has recently. I think Musa is still captain..

You know that rule about mandatory rest after major tournaments? Does it apply if its mid season?

there isn't one in football, most international players are lucky if they get more than a week

Yeah there is, its why Ndidi was back late etc?

its not mandatory we just gave him extra time off before as it made sense as it was the summer, previous winter AFCONs the players have returned straight away and played

In the last winter one (2017), Mahrez went out on the Monday/Tuesday and was back playing for us on the Friday.

Fifa set this precident by accepting the bribes from Qatar (bet they struggled with their consciounces for almost 10 seconds) knowing that it would be impossible to play football in that desert (in every sense of the word) during the summer.

So now every tournament organiser will feel its OK to move to whatever time of year suits.

But what do we fans matter, the most important thing is Backhand Blatter and his underworld cronies got their bribes.

But at least there is sufficient notice to find or develop cover for Wilf, anyway none of our present team will be here in 12 months.... It was in the papers so it must be true.
