Premier League 2020/21 Thread

Can anyone explain why Burnley, after 5 straight years in the Premier League (and couple more in the early 2010s), still move like this in the transfer market? Similarr sized clubs like Fulham, Brighton, Palace, even Newcastle, have spent relative to their league position. Where does the hundreds of millions of TV revenue they have received go?

I'm tired of this guy and his victim mentally.

It's because the £42M cash position the club built over years of not investing in the squad, has already gone to the hedge fund and other lenders who financed the takeover.  Also reports of an additional nine figures (or close) in debt incurred.

There's your explanation!

How many mediocre center halfs do they need to replace VvD?

After the arrival of Ben Davies from Preston North End, Liverpool have furthered bolstered their defence by signing Ozan Kabak.

Liverpool have made their second defensive signing of transfer deadline day by bringing in Ozan Kabak from Schalke on loan.

Have a look at the midweek and weekend prem fixtures. Lots of ideal games for us with the top 8 teams all playing each other (roughly)

If we can take 6 points from wolves and fulham we’ll be looking a hell of a lot better come Sunday night.

Premier League champions Liverpool have signed centre-back Ben Davies from Preston North End for a deal reportedly worth £1.6million.

Intresting Liverpool have now confirmed Matip is out for the rest of the season.

I now see why they have had to react today.

Liverpool's next 10 Premier League games compared to Manchester United, Man City and Leicester

Here is every side in the title race's next 10 games in the league.

Man City fixtures

Feb 2: Burnley (A)

Feb 6: Liverpool (A)

Feb 13: Tottenham (H)

Feb 20: Arsenal (A)

Feb 27: West Ham (H)

March 6: Man United (H)

March 13: Fulham (A)

March 20: Wolves (H)

April 3: Leicester (A)

April 10: Leeds United (H)

City face four of the Big Six in five matches in what will be a tough run of games after Tuesday’s match against Burnley.

Should they beat Burnley, then City will go into these games flying, though, with Saturday’s victory over Sheffield United making it eight league wins in a row as they extended their lead at the top of the table.

Their next six games will no doubt be the toughest test of their form and, looking further ahead, matches against Leicester and Leeds at the start of April will not be easy.

Yet all of City’s Big Six opponents in this run of matches have shown weaknesses recently, and, if they can come through their next few games unscathed, then they would no doubt be favourites to reclaim the title.

Man United fixtures

Feb 02: Southampton (H)

Feb 06: Everton (H)

Feb 13: West Brom (A)

Feb 20: Newcastle United (H)

Feb 27: Chelsea (A)

March 6: Man City (A)

March 13: West Ham (H)

March 20: Crystal Palace (A)

April 3: Brighton (H)

April 10: Tottenham (A)

United’s success in this run of games depends on two things - whether they can improve their home form and record against the top six.

With their next two matches at Old Trafford and against teams challenging for Europe, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side will need to improve upon having the 11th-best home record in the Premier League if they want to avoid disappointing results.

With matches against the likes of West Brom, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Brighton, there are plenty of winnable games in this run of fixtures for United, although last week’s loss to Sheffield United may have shaken their confidence a little.

Liverpool fixtures

Feb 03: Brighton (H)

Feb 06: Man City (H)

Feb 13: Leicester City (A)

Feb 20: Everton (H)

Feb 27: Sheffield United (A)

March 6: Fulham (H)

March 13: Wolves (A)

March 20: Chelsea (H)

April 3: Arsenal (A)

April 10: Aston Villa (H)

Jurgen Klopp’s side have regained their form in their last two matches, seeing off Tottenham and West Ham in what looked like two difficult games on paper.
Liverpool squad numbers available to Ben Davies and any other deadline day transfers
Their next 10 games can essentially be divided into three sections, with a run of what appear to be winnable fixtures being book-ended by two sets of trickier matches.

The Reds will no doubt feel confident of beating Brighton, but the Seagulls have looked impressive recently and grabbed a point against Klopp’s side earlier in this season. They also come into the game off an impressive 1-0 win over Tottenham.

A match against an ominously in-form Man City is followed by a game against a Leicester City side hoping to get key players back from injury soon and then a Merseyside derby.

If Liverpool can get some good results from these matches, then they should be in a strong position for a more favourable run of games against the likes of Sheffield United and Fulham.
At the end of March and beginning of April, there is a run of three tricky games against Chelsea, Arsenal and Aston Villa, which could prove an important period should the Reds still be in title contention.

Leicester fixtures

Feb 3: Fulham (A)

Feb 7: Wolves (A)

Feb 13: Liverpool (H)

Feb 21: Aston Villa (A)

Feb 27: Arsenal (H)

March 6: Brighton (A)

March 13: Sheffield United (H)

March 20: Burnley (A)

April 3: Man City (H)

April 10: West Ham (A)

Leicester City’s run of games is arguably the most favourable in the top four, with three matches against the Big Six, all of which are at home.

The biggest question will be whether the Foxes can cope without key players Jamie Vardy and Wilfred Ndidi, who are both currently out injured.

If Leicester can bounce back from their defeat to Leeds at the weekend by beating Fulham and Wolves, they will be in a good position for a run of three games against Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal.

Further winnable games against Brighton and Sheffield United follow before a tough game against Man City in early April.

Probably not what Burnley fans or Dyche were hoping to hear when they got taken over .

Nope.  We've been screwed.  The previous owners, Garlick and Bansakowicz, have been building up a pot of cash by spending little on signings and relatively little on wages.  We though they were building a buffer against eventual relegation, but no, they have taken the cash for themselves.

The new owners?  It's 50-50 whether they are going to run the club professionally in the best interest of the club, or whether they are going to take out all the cash they can grab and screw the club.  The evidence so far is not favourable.  They have paid, it seems. £15m cash for Burnley FC, they have covered most of the rest of the purchase price by raiding the club funds and loading it with debt, and they are apparently scrabbling round for the rest.  No doubt directors fees are next in the plans.

These guys have managed to blend the takeover strategies of the Glazers at MUFC (5% down) and Stu Arnold at SAFC (pledge all existing cash and future cashflow).   All too easy to see coming ...

the Burnley takeover is a wing and a prayer proceeding 90% on borrowing against the assets of the club (including all their cash on hand).  Mark my words, Burnley are ****ed.

The idea of “fit and proper” owners is more a sham than ever.

Knew it when I first heard about it. Blood Suckers they are. Predatory Capitalism will destroy the world if we let it.

Probably the single most embarrassing thing you can see on a football pitch, narrowly ahead of central defenders diving, is a central defender actually moving out of the way of a shot.

Don't turn your ****ing back. Throw your face at it if you have to you absolute pansy.

Good goal from Pepe. Semedo should do so much better there.

Barnes will love going up against Semedo if he defends like that...

Semedo has 17 caps for Portugal. Ricardo has 7 caps. Make sense of that.
