You could say that that's a promotion for him, despite his overall performances being in decline in recent seasons.

Nah, they got up on a technicality in terms of getting into the play-offs (and played well in them) but the squad lacks quality and they haven't got the money to do anything major.

Honors even in the Brian Clough trophy then, a derby that is about as relevant (if not less) these days as the secondary West London derby between Brentford and QPR.

Tbf derbies are only relevant to the clubs involved.

 

There's loads of great lower league derbies full of hatred (Chester/Wrexham, Bristol City/Bristol Rovers etc) but they aren't really "relevant" to anybody else are they.

I think the fact this is not relevant is the need for some odd trophy. 
 

do the fans of both clubs genuinely want the trophy? Does it genuinely get presented afterwards? It’s just odd
