Jamie Vardy is signing a new contract with Leicester in a huge pre-season boost for manager Brendan Rodgers.

Vardy was last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner with 23 goals and has agreed a one-year extension to his previous contract which will run to 2023 and take him to his 36th birthday.

Leicester are expected to officially confirm the deal on Wednesday and, with the departure of Ben Chilwell to Chelsea expected in the next 48 hours, Rodgers has moved to tie down his talisman for the long-term.

A £1million signing from Fleetwood in 2012, Vardy has been a revelation at the King Power Stadium, winning the Premier League title four years later, scoring 123 goals and earning a place in the England squad.

At the age of 33 his impact last season was remarkable, finishing as the league’s top scorer ahead of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, Danny Ings and Raheem Sterling, and helping secure Leicester a place in the Europa League.

After picking up the Golden Boot following the final game of the season against Manchester United, Vardy said: "I wouldn't have been in the position l am with the goals if it wasn't for them and luckily I've put a few of them away.

"I don't feel my age. Touch wood, I'm not picking up many injuries and I'll try to come back as strong as l can next year."

England international James Maddison signed a new four-year contract earlier this week and Leicester have prepared for the imminent sale of Chilwell to Chelsea by tying down youngster Luke Thomas, 19, to a new deal.

Courtesy of Sir Johnathan of Percy, no less.

If any player deserves it, it's Vardy. A hero through and through, and he still has the legs.

By the end of his contract he'll be a guiding hand for his successor(s) too. Smart business.

Hmm. Not sure there was any rush to do this.still had 2 years left, already one of the biggest earners and unlikely to be poached by anyone. What happens if he has a crap season next year?

Can’t imagine there is any pay rise attached to this and nobody should ever

begrudge him a new deal although could be a bit strange if he’s had a rise considering we aren’t meant to be spending much.

I suspect it’s probably a fall out from

Brendans new deal.

Chilwell's departure is funding new contracts, no new players coming in except for whats left over out the dog shit bin.

I very much doubt that is the case, I think we will get a couple of good new signings plus the new contracts

At 33 with two years left, he didn't need a new deal. Likewise Mendy, three years a piece. We've also handed out contracts for Fuchs Morgan and Jakupovic who don't even play whilst making zero signings. I know its similar to previous years when James King and Albrighton randomly received 4 year deals but we really are too generous.

A reminder, folks, that we handed out contracts to Vardy, Schmeichel, Maguire, Chilwell and Ndidi in 2018's summer and still signed Ricardo, Maddison, Evans, Soyuncu, Benkovic, Ward and Ghezzal for £100m+ in one of our biggest net spends in recent times.

Will people stop stressing about the financial situation of the club? There is absolutely nothing to worry about and there is money available as there always is.

The signing of our greatest ever player to an extended deal is brilliant news and nobody can say any other.

Mendy I can sort of understand, a 3 year deal will hopefully mean we get a fee for him next summer should we want to sell him.

It does seem a bit pointless giving Vardy another year now, why not at the end of this season, when he's got a year left? He isn't going anywhere and he could end up with a major injury.
