Jesus, I really hope hes not gonna be on 100k pw at 34/35

Well I imagine with his new contract he will be on over 100k when he is 36. Madness

Now FFP’s relaxed (I think?) maybe this is a good time to reward our best players (Ricardo, Evans, Soyuncu, Ndidi, Maddison, Vardy) with new deals.

IIRC in previous seasons we could only increase the wage bill by 7m. Not entirely sure what the figure was, but FFP definitely had some wage restrictions..

Mendy I can sort of understand, a 3 year deal will hopefully mean we get a fee for him next summer should we want to sell him.

It does seem a bit pointless giving Vardy another year now, why not at the end of this season, when he's got a year left? He isn't going anywhere and he could end up with a major injury.

Mendy’s contract is only for 2 years.

Vardy’s extension is possibly the owners wanting to reward him for the Golden Boot? Or perhaps to appease the fans with numerous contract extensions before we announce the Chilwell sale.

It was announced as 2 years but afterwards it was said it was an error and it's 3 years? So not surelol

I can sort of see why they've done it to reward him, but it seems a little unnecessary IMO.

You'd think some of these wages come out your lots personal bank accounts the way you go on.

I'd personally make them pay him 100k a week until he dies for what he's done for us.

This sort of sentiment is why we're still paying Matty James a decent wedge.

We all love Vardy, but I can't see the reasoning behind a new deal.

I don't see him going into management.

I don't think its comparable. Is Vardy showing any signs of letting up? He's just won the golden boot, no International games for him. Even as a sub when he does start to pack in, he'll be invaluable. I just want him around the club forever.

I'm not sure Matty James is as important lol

I get where you're coming from mate, I just don't think it was needed when he has 2 years left. What we don't want is a situation where he's earning 120k + week yet sitting around injured for a long period of time or not featuring in the match day squad.

Hopefully he'll still be at this level in a couple of seasons, we won't give a shit about the wage then:scarf:

For those questioning the decision to offer an extended deal, this is a contract to reward him for the season just gone - and quite rightly so in my mind.

There may also be a tie in with Maddison’s new deal if Vardy’s previous contract contained a clause that his wage had to match that of the highest earner at the club.

It shows the club have a lot of confidence in him and believe he can keep it up for a long time still. Tells me they have no intention of signing a third striker to be honest.

Well I have confidence in a 20+ goal scorer too that has adapted and not just using pace to get goals. The guy is a true legend

A reminder, folks, that we handed out contracts to Vardy, Schmeichel, Maguire, Chilwell and Ndidi in 2018's summer and still signed Ricardo, Maddison, Evans, Soyuncu, Benkovic, Ward and Ghezzal for £100m+ in one of our biggest net spends in recent times.

Will people stop stressing about the financial situation of the club? There is absolutely nothing to worry about and there is money available as there always is.

The signing of our greatest ever player to an extended deal is brilliant news and nobody can say any other.

You've been a great voice of reason over the last few weeks, but hopefully you can understand why many fans, myself included, and getting nervy. We literally collapsed as a team in this calendar year and are in urgent need of reinforcements. But other than new contracts the first big piece of business will be to sell an academy graduate to a top 6 rival!

Hopefully it all gets sorted out, and even one signing of the right calibre would get everone pumped again.

Anyway staying on topic, having Vardy around till he retires is A-OK with me. The Leicester City GOAT!
