It might make no difference at all for all I know but what bothers me with Chilwell winning it is that it only makes the decision to leave easier for others, Chilwell was our worst starting defender last season and he’s managed to win the Champions League within a year of leaving.

I get that Pep thought (mistakenly) that Chelsea would be defensive and his side would have the majority of possession hence the two he left out but you still get either Silva or Gundagan to occupy that position and role, just benefit from them being better on the ball, you don't just leave a space for Mount to have a picnic before every pass.

 

Weird combination with having no natural CF as well.

Most of the pundits were surprised by his selection. 

 

He has history of this in the CL with Man C.

He had an established starting XI for months, yet to chose to massively tinker at the worst possible moment. Players ain't robots, they've been used to a formation, a starting XI, an established partnership with other players and you can't just change that overnight without consequences. Going against this Chelsea team without DM was insane, end off. His ego got the better of him. Again.

That was a really good game until Chelsea scored, after which it was just ruthlessly efficient “game management” by Chelsea flitting between the inexplicably legal (time wasting, diving) and the obviously illegal (Rudiger fouling De Bruyne in a manner which would have you under the microscope in rugby).

 

That said Man City had absolutely no reply and Chelsea were worthy winners. So much better watching with fans in the ground.
