‘Probably got lucky’: Brendan Rodgers claims he’s overlooked because he’s British after Leeds win
The Foxes had too much for Leeds on Monday night

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers insists he deserves more credit and that he is often overlooked because he is British.

Rodgers tactically got the better of Marcelo Bielsa in the Foxes’ 4-1 victory over Leeds United on Monday.

Youri Tielemans struck twice, with Jamie Vardy and Harvey Barnes also getting on the score sheet as Leicester crushed Marcelo Bielsa's side to move up to second in the Premier League with 15 points, one point behind leaders Liverpool.

It was Leicester's fourth away victory of the season, following wins over Slaven Bilic's West Bromwich Albion, Pep Guardiola's Manchester City and Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.

“Because I'm a British manager, we probably got lucky,” Rodgers told reporters. “That is the way it works for British managers in these games.

“But the players were tactically very good and got their rewards. It's the type of performance you need to win these games against Leeds. They have shown what a really good attacking team they are.

“You have to defend well but you know there is space. On the back of European travel it was a performance that was very pleasing.

“But as I said before the game, you also know there will be space and if you have quality, you can create chances.

“Defensively, we were very good in blocking the spaces and getting tight. The goal we conceded was poor, but in some ways it will help us going forward as we had to show that resilience.

“We're maturing all the time as a team and that's pleasing to see.”

How'd we lose 3-0 at home to West Ham and 1-0 at home to Villa then

I give him credit as I predicted 0 points from next 4 games (after Villa defeat), so well done, but that stinks of arrogance to me after a couple of wins... Almost like he has forgotten about our poor home form.

Spot on, you’ve only got to look at the Biesla love in, a bloke who has managed for 30 odd years and won nothing of note, yet gets raved about as the greatest manager ever. Give it a rest, most overrated PL manager in the history of PL.

If he was Mark Boshop from Grimsby no one would give him the time of day.

I’m not being funny but the bloke was basically grilled about Bielsa in his pre-match as if he was appearing on his “this is your life” special. I bet he couldn’t wait to stick the boot in a bit back, I’d do the same. Fair play to him.

I think there is still a stigma that British managers play a safe and honest style and aren't really innovators and tactically aware. Brendan imo was the first manager that I can remember in the PL to play a possession based style with Swansea and aim to retain possession and break through the lines. I think it was Leon Britton who was just there in the quarterback role to recycle possession and keep the ball. It was unheard of in the PL at the time as most teams played a static 4-4-2 or a flat 4-3-3.

I think he's bang on.

Was probably said tongue in cheek but we have all commented about the biesla love in on sky so we have all seen it ourselves. As soon as we got to 3-1 we had better more experienced players, the commentators making excuses for him.

Its the same as the big 6 issue. Credit isn't always given where it's due and I have no issue with that being pointed out.

I watched it on Bein sports and they were just as bad if not worse

....and only they can explain why if/when Leeds get promoted they'll be considered before us as well.

They should stop using the phrase top/big six and just call them the Media Darlings.

Posted this back in July and so it happens.

Strong rumours that Utd are looking at Rodgers. Inevitable.

Probably linked by Manchester United's agency, aka Sky.

Bless them, they've been having a very hard time over the past few years accepting that Manchester United are not even a shadow of the club they once were.

I think Brendan's smart enough to swerve that absolute mess, too. It's where managers go to set their careers back by about five years.

After Bielsa of course.

We will be fine.  Pochettino will be in before Christmas.  No buy out and was favorite the last time before Ole did so well they had to give him the job permenantly.

Rodgers has a quick pop and this is what they lead with........no wonder managers don't say anything in the pressers.

Rodgers used to have alot of interesting things to say about the game when he was at Liverpool.

Ended that his first day at Celtic. Our loss.

It's true neither Brendan Rodgers nor Leicester City get the credit they deserve where is often due.

The pre-match bollocks by Sky last night centred on Poch and Leeds. It paid very little or no attention to City, however, the performance and result did the talking.

Rodgers is never going to go to United or Everton unless he wants to trash his rep at Liverpool. Not likely.

If Poch goes to United he'll have many problems to deal with and they aren't just on the field.

Makes me think that Rodgers values this club and its professionalism/organization more than people realize. How much money do you need. So hard to get everything moving in the right direction like we seem to have. If we keep on progressing is it possible to become a Dortmund, Sevilla, or Atletico? Have a pop at the top prize perhaps?

I knew he wasn't as well-decorated as the praise he gets would otherwise make you believe, but your comment made me look up what he's actually won and, well...:dunno:

A few second-tier honours with Leeds, a few cup final defeats, some inconsequential international honours and a couple of Argentinian league titles in the early 90s. That's pretty abysmal, in all honesty.
