I reckon he'd have probably given it. A lot of the time they don't give these things in the knowledge somebody can bail them out.

They just badly need to bin that rule.

 

such an easy one to solve. Just have a margin and say if it’s within that margin then go with the original decision. A bit like they do in cricket with the umpires call

But before VAR we would've looked at the replay of Maddison's goal and 100% of those seeing would've said he was onside. 

 

And we wouldn't have had a penalty

The thing is, to do that they’d just need to make the lines they use wider. Would work much better IMO
