Football isn’t always inspiring but the amount of teams that set up against us in a low block to hit us on the counter to stop us playing is silly. We’ve progressed a hell of a lot and each tournament southagate has managed us, we’ve gone one step further than the previous.

Think the lack of pace told last night and Hungary had something to hold onto which meant they were able to sit back.

Plus Kane was a passenger up front really.

There is no doubt progress has been made though and some players really have become good England regulars/there is exciting young talent in the squad.

The gap that has appeared between Maddison and Grealish is mental seeing as they were pretty much neck and neck a couple of years ago.

Difference in mentality and injury has really allowed Grealish to push on, whereas Maddison has dropped

A desperately poor performance.  Far too defensive again.

We need to either up the tempo and be more direct or we need to play two up top at home.

We need to do better at keeping opposition defences occupied when they are sitting in against us.

I don’t see how much England could go attacking without playing two strikers. The lack of a second outright centre midfielder left Rice tracking huge gaps of space

Southgate will never win over the fans. It's quite strange really- his record is very impressive for an England manager. Venables, for instance, is revered yet managed in one tournament on home soil that he didn't need to qualify for. Southgate had a very similar scenario and went further.

I'm not his biggest admirer but he has turned England around from the dreadful dross of the decade before 2018.

Nostalgia is a wonderful thing filled with selective memory.

One of the usual things to chuck at Southgate is the claim he hasnt beat any big teams at the top of their game at a major tournament but that is compared to what exactly?

At England 96, England thrased Netherlands but Netherlands went out in the next round anyway.

At the world cup in 2002, England beat Argentina (who went out in the group stage anyway) and drew against Nigeria and Sweden.

Anyone else gonna give this world cup a miss? I absolutely hate everything about it and it won't even register on my radar next November.

Any England player that goes and then has the temerity to keep championing social justices will just go down as massive hypocrites, it'll just confirm to me that they're doing this things because they're told to/it's seen as the right thing to do.

Nope, the whole country will get right behind the boys after how close we came in the summer just gone. It's wrong, but let's face it, we'll all turn a blind eye to any wrong doings in the build up once it comes around.

I sadly think you're right, I'm just glad Coalville will still be playing during the world cup :D

2 game stadium van with 1 suspended along with a £100k for the euro 2020 final fiasco. But let’s not worry about racism or anything like that. Not saying we shouldn’t be punished, but what a joke this seems to have worst reciprocations than racism.

Didn’t the teams done for that get a stadium closure too ?

I do agree more needs to be done to punish sides though .

Sadly don’t think we can complain about this one .

Weirdos

Not really.

It's not anti English, it's pro Hungarian. There's a centuries old cultural bond between the Hungarians and Polish. It's not like a bunch of Welsh or Scottish turning up in the away end just to support whoever England are playing.

I can't think of many equivalent relationships between countries. At club level, bit like Leicester fans going over to watch OHL or the Leicester-Krefeld firefighters meet ups I suppose.

It’s my sincere hope that UEFA and CONMEBOL nations boycott the World Cup if this goes ahead. It’s simply too much football

That is grotesque

Off to Wembley on Friday to watch England v Albania. Kids have been pestering me to go to an England game and seeing as this on is on a Friday night seemed like a good option.

Tickets for me plus two kids was £45 in total - not bad value really (although will probably cost that again for a round of drinks in Wembley!)

Been called up now-  probably get 20 minutes in one of the games .

Yeah, happy to see this. He clearly is a great footballer but it’ll be hard for him to establish himself as we are so gifted in the attacking midfield department. Foden and Grealish will definitely be ahead of him right now.

What a shambles these 2 games are like so many of the qualifiers, just a mismatched joke for the powers that be to make a few quid. Bloody rubbish.

Will be quite disappointed if we don't get any clean sheets and a 3-0/4-0 positive scoreline against both of these two teams.

It must be strange for the part-time San Marino players; playing for their country as a 'second job', and having no expectations/quality at all.

You don't think countries like Albania should have a chance to host/play top countries? Their fans a chance to see world famous players?

They know no they have almost zero chance of qualifying, this is their cup. Why would you deny them that?

That's why I actually like the Nations League, a chance to play some old rivals in fairly competitive games, plus as a travelling fan it means you get to visit the country.

Buzzing for the draw, think it's 5 weeks away today actually. Pretty sure we're gonna have a friendly in March as well? Rumoured to be Germany ages ago but who knows. I'm saving a few quid and hoping to make at least one England away trip next year.
