I appreciate it’s a balance of balancing boredom with re-education …… maybe get them litter picking. Having lived at her majesty's pleasure a few years ago, this misconception drives me mad. Yes, the capacity absolutely needs increasing, as sharing a cell designed for 1 with someone, in a Victorian age prison, I can tell you, is horrendous. However, what do you mean by luxury TVs? You have a TV in your cell that can receive 7 channels. These channels are voted on once a year; you always have 1 to 5, the other 2 are via a ballot. Whilst I was in, the IPL had just started on ITV4. We had ITV4. The votes were cast, and we ended up with ITV Be instead of itv 4. What the **** is ITV Be? Absolute bollocks of a channel. Horrendous. In terms of consoles, I knew very, very few people who had them, appart from rich inmates and Lifers that were about 20 years into their sentence.. The only way to get one was buy via your canteen order. They were about £200 to get. The absolute max you were paid in a prison job was £1.75 a DAY (despite the shit you made being sold to the public at full wack), obviously family can send you money too but the canteen had a max spend so it was extremely hard to get a console. It's not like everyone has one. I think I met 3 people with a PS2. 2 1
UniFox21 Posted 11 January 2022 Posted 11 January 2022 The fact that the BringYourOwnBooze part of the party is being emphasised is giving me a laugh 1
Tommy Fresh Posted 11 January 2022 Posted 11 January 2022 This happened around the time the Cummings story broke, assuming had Boris and co actually lambasted Cummings at that time this would have come out a lot sooner.
Mike Oxlong Posted 11 January 2022 Posted 11 January 2022 The media are making a mountain out of a molehill again. It clearly wasn’t a party. It was just a very large work meeting with grape and hop accompaniments. 3

You're punishment is your loss of freedom, something that many people couldn't deal with over lockdown, not to be completely abused and live in a hovel Prison is meant to rehabilitate the offender and in many cases, people come out with addictions and less well socialised. Look at the prison systems in Netherlands and Norway etc - all about stopping reoffending. 4

This idea that it's some form of "luxury" is absolutely bollocks. Whenever I hear that I ask people to imagine they ripped out their bath from their bathroom, replaced it with a bunk bed then put some shelves in and that's where they spend most of their day. Prison should be for the absolute bastards who can't be trusted to get on with normal society, no matter how much effort you put in with them. One of my biggest bugbears is putting low level offenders or drug users in there (particular user-dealers who often don't have much of a say). All you're doing is giving them contacts and sod all to be grateful for, with nothing to come out to. 11
Popular Post RoboFox Posted 11 January 2022 Popular Post Posted 11 January 2022 (edited) Whoever is drip-feeding leaks to ITV isn't allowing Johnson or his corrupt regime regain any momentum. They're ensuring that the government's reputation and public confidence remains rock-bottom. Whenever he thinks it's all blown over and people have forgotten about their last weekly scandal, out comes something else. It's imperative that Johnson and his bunch of bent morons remain in power until the next general election if we're finally to see progress in this country, I think Starmer knows this and is playing the long game. If the source of the leaks turns out to be Cummings, and he's responsible for bringing down this government, it'll be one of the most unlikely redemption arcs in history. He's undoubtedly a piece of shit but he holds the keys to dismantle this government.
Popular Post rachhere Posted 11 January 2022 Popular Post Posted 11 January 2022 I have said this before, but I just don't understand how they even had time for all these parties! During the first couple of waves of Covid I was so busy at work as a result of the impact of it all that I wouldn't have had time to socialise with work friends, even if I had wanted to. Hearing suggestions now from MPs that these gatherings can be justified because of 'just how hard they were working' highlights how out of touch they are with the wider impacts on society. 5

Leicester_Loyal Posted 11 January 2022 Posted 11 January 2022 Yet only a few weeks prior it almost 'killed' him? Horseshit, that was more lies from the Government/Media to take this virus more seriously. 1
Farrington fox Posted 11 January 2022 Posted 11 January 2022 What does Johnson have to do for his party to put in a vote of no confidence.

Horseshit, that was more lies from the Government/Media to take this virus more seriously. Actually it was quite the reverse - the press were largely in the dark and Downing St. tried to conceal the severity of the situation. Prior to admission at St Thomas's in early April, his situation was significantly worse than had been publicly admitted and it transpired that he was in need of oxygen support. Downing Street did not deny reports he was immediately given oxygen, but once again the spokesperson/press release sought to downplay events, saying this was “a precautionary step”. Raab even claimed to the press that he was still in charge and "leading" from behind the scenes. So either the government was business as usual, by which I mean, lying/covering up, or incompetent, or both. No 10 insisted that when Raab spoke he was unaware of the PM's sudden decline resulting in critical care but it seems that at no point was he on a ventilator or in receipt of Cpap, which is less invasive. I think he spent seven nights in hospital of which three were in critical care. Had he not been admitted and treated so promptly then yes, he could well have died.

fox_up_north Posted 11 January 2022 Posted 11 January 2022 He won't go. Only way he does is by losing an election or by the Tories holding a vote of no confidence, which they won't do yet.
