Christian Fuchs 'will come back' to Leicester City as he reveals belated Nigel Pearson meeting

Leicester City title-winner Christian Fuchs “knows he will come back eventually” after beginning his search for a new club.

The fans’ favourite left the King Power Stadium after six years this summer, lifting the Premier League title in his maiden campaign and the FA Cup in his farewell season.


At 35, Fuchs says he has a couple of years left in his legs, and so now begins a hunt for a new team, likely in the US where he has now joined his wife and children.

But, he has made it clear he is not saying goodbye permanently to City, after revealing chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha is cooking up a plan for his return.

“I came with a trophy, and I’m leaving with another one,” he told the BBC.


“When you’re attached to a club like that, there’s never really a right time to say goodbye. I’m not saying goodbye. I know I will come back eventually. I have to come back. I want to come back. I’ve been demanded to come back by Khun Top in whatever function, whatever he is planning.

“But I really came as a player looking for an opportunity in England and I’m leaving as a big fan of the club. I will always be attached to Leicester City.

“The friends I worked with on a daily basis, those connections will be missed, having this routine, driving to the training ground, having your training, that’s a loss.

“But I have a lot to look forward to over here as well with my family, which I was looking forward to for the past nine years, so I think it was good timing to leave with another trophy in the luggage. I didn’t take the trophy with me though!”


He added: “I will continue playing football. That’s to be seen (where). I have a couple of years left in my legs, but it doesn’t matter where I play, I will always have Leicester in my heart, that doesn’t change.”

Although Fuchs’ City career went better than he ever could have expected, leaving with two winners’ medals, it didn’t get off to the best start.

He joined City on a free transfer from Schalke in June 2015, but saw the manager who signed him, Nigel Pearson, leave the same month.

They then did not meet until 2018 when Pearson, then in charge of City’s sister club OH Leuven, brought his side to Belvoir Drive for a pre-season friendly.

“I was thanking him for signing me on for Leicester,” Fuchs said of their first meeting. “I told him that I wished we could have worked together, obviously it didn’t happen.


 

“I wished him all of the best with Leuven. It was just before we had this friendly, so we literally had a minute to talk but my initial sentence was: ‘How are you? Good to finally meet you!’”

Before he begins playing again, Fuchs will be on punditry duty, the Austrian signing up with BBC Radio Five Live to provide his thoughts on the European Championships this summer.

It's really quite emotional seeing the last parts of that season start to leave the club. 

 

I'll look back when i'm an old man and he'll be one of the special ones.

Top class guy. I reckon he'll miss being in and around the club every day a lot. 

But one thing for sure is that he will be welcome back any time in any capacity.

2 hours from his family home in New York, I imagine that is going to be much better for him! Same club that Steve Walsh was/is a special advisor for

It's an 11 hour drive tho. Good thing about it is I can watch him play as this team is 45 minutes from me by car.

I imagine it wouldn't take much for him to lay on a private plane for himself to fly to and from Charlotte when needed

Same time zone too! I’m seriously excited to get to see him play some games Stateside.

He was such an important part of the title winning team, on and off the pitch. One of my all time favourite Leicester players.

What a class act he is. I'm really going to miss him and I bet the team will too.
