Considering he’s been in and around first team I thought nelson had a poor game! Thought godsmark-Ford was much better. Ready the game well a few times.

Nelson kind of got hung out to dry playing in a weird right centre back / right back role tonight, not a role suited for him when he isn't that quick

Passing was a bit poor at times as well - although I think that could be said for a lot of players

Alves looks brilliant but going to be a big step up physically with his style of play - braybrooke may find it easier in the short term

I thought that having seen bits of him but as Rodgers says, for a 16 year old who looks quite lean, he's actually quite resilient.

Fascinating to see, we tend not to get too many breakthrough before they're 18 but I think they're trying to fast track him.

Braybrooke looks class, we have quite a few central midfielders coming through. It's great to see!

I was most disappointed with Nelson and Popov tonight, Nelson looked very poor on the ball which is odd for him and Popov seemed to have a frustrating night. Like his aggression though.

Popov looked like he’d got an edge and would piss a defender off vardyesque

...with his skill Alves needs to be curling balls into the top corner!!!

He tends to keep his shots low, but he needs to be going for the angle of post and bar, he is more than capable.

So he's put the ball in the back of net,

But for his development he needs to put the ball in the back of the net but this time a bit higher?

A goal is a goal. It doesn't matter if it trickles over or flies in top corner.

Alves is the real deal.Watched most of the game last night and he was head and shoulders above anyone on the pitch

Better running with the ball than either Maddison or Tielemans , almost Grealish like.

If he continues to improve then we have some player here

A view from the Cherries

28th January
Leicester City run out 5-1 winners against AFC Bournemouth in FA Youth Cup fifth round

By Jack Tanner  @EchoSportJack

YOUNG Cherries’ run in the FA Youth Cup came to an end in the fifth round of the competition, with the eventual 5-1 scoreline flattering Leicester City.

Cherries under-18s manager Alan Connell was correct to label the young Foxes as “one of the best in the country”, with the Leicester side beaten just once in their league – the top division of under-18s football. To advance to this round, the Foxes had beaten last year’s FA Youth Cup winners, Aston Villa, highlighting their quality.

However it was hard to tell the difference in leagues on the pitch early on, with Cherries creating more chances in the opening exchanges.

Some lovely interplay with Dacosta Gonzalez and Lewis Brown down the right flank yielded the first shot of the game, with Marucs Daws’ effort pushed out for a corner.

Shortly after Cherries would come knocking again, when a sloppy pass out the back from Leicester captain Sammy Braybrooke saw Noa Boutin pick up the ball and fire towards Arlo Doherty in the Foxes’ goal.

The young shotstopper managed to tip the strike out for a corner, which Cherries could not use to great effect.

After the early flurry of activity for the hosts, Leicester slowly grew into the game.

Shortly after the half-hour mark, the Foxes would take the lead through Will Alves.

A driving run from Joe Wormleighton allowed Alves to pick-up the ball in the box before placing it beneath Ollie Camis in the Cherries goal.

Whilst the opener was clinical, Leicester’s second will quickly be forgotten for Cherries. A mix-up between Finn Tonks and Camis saw the ball fall kindly for Chris Popov, who duly smacked the ball home for the Foxes’ second.

After the quick sucker punch of two goals in three minutes, Cherries managed to see out the rest of the half without little event.

In the second half the hosts stepped up the energy, really taking the game to Leicester.

With a much more intense press, Cherries won the ball back through Dacosta Gonzalez, with the loose ball falling for Lewis Brown.

The midfielder lofted the ball over ‘keeper Doherty from 30 yards, sparking a potential comeback for Cherries. The goal marked the first time Foxes had conceded in this year’s competition.

Cherries almost made it two shortly after, with a Dacosta Gonzalez free-kick ending up just the wrong side of the post. Daws repeated the trick minutes later, with his long-range effort narrowly fizzing past the woodwork.

All of Cherries’ good work was undone shortly after when Leicester hit them on the break. Foxes captain Sammy Braybrooke latched onto a loose ball in the area to fire home and restore the away’s side two goal lead.

Deflated by the third goal, the game petered out until the last 10 minutes.

With Cherries chucking men forward in search of a way back into the game, Leicester scored two similar goals on the counter to seal the game off.

Substitute Brandon Cover rounded off both counters with calm finishes to send Leicester comfortably through to the quarter finals, where they will face either Manchester United or Everton.

Was thinking about his play last night - the ability to find space to receive on the half turn is a skill in itself. His pace of the mark is excellent and stands him apart from his peers - the ability to do stuff with your feet in manipulating the ball and at the same time sprint away from the pressing markers is not a very common trait - messi and maradonna are the greatest at this.  Of course he wasn’t playing against a high quality opposition but then again, many of them would be almost 2 years older.

as I said in the commentary, him and braybrooke could be v special.  The club need to decide with both of them what their best pathway forward is.  Surely we won’t just allow them to continue to play at their age group level - they need to be challenged

I know braybrooke is eng U18 captain - will be interesting to see if alves is raised ahead of his age group

Not been impressed with Popov on the 2 occasions I've seen him.  That free kick he took was even worse than Bournemouth corner that went straight out of play.

Was impressed with Cover when he came on, 2 very good finishes.

Thought the system and football played was diabolical in the main. Felt like we won because we were better rather than playing well.

Will Alves,  this kid is insane. Id already have him ahead of Perez. No matter how fast he dribbles the ball is stuck to his feet. Thought his decision making was decent last night as well, was expecting him to be a ball hog, but he knew when to release it.

...I  think Braybrooke would have something to say about that!!!

His (Braybrooke) shortfall at the moment is his physicality.

Terrific little player, low centre of gravity, hates to lose the ball and floats around the pitch. Can transition the play, has vision and a deftness of touch.

Great that we have such talented players at this age group, it will be great to watch as they develop.

Hopefully we will see something in February about Alves signing a nice long term professional contract

Think the way he's been fast tracked is our way of saying how much we rate him and that there's nowhere else for him to prosper. He doesn't turn 17 until the end of the season, absolutely mad.

Ahh I didn’t realise his birthday May, TransferMarkt has it as February haha

Probably be the summer when we possibly hear about him signing a pro contract then

The Alves goal for 1-0

Didn't Rodgers tell Alves he was taking too many touches in the Watford cup game? I reckon if Alves tried anything similar in a senior game BR would be volleying water bottles down the touchline in frustration.

Maddison does a few flamboyant things from time to time. I was actually surprised how little Alves did showboat last night, he certainly knows when to just run at teams and twist and turn rather than bamboozle with the footwork.

...I would suspect this could be his last season in the U18s!!!

We have to keep pushing him to maintain his development. You can start to get too cosy and slow down your progress and become distracted. With the U23s now at a much younger age and a lot of the other academies are at the same age, it would be appropriate if he was to be played at that level.
