I'm sorry but he didn't "throw" a punch in that sense. He went out to punch the ball away. It was no a direct punch at the opponent. Very harsh in my opinion.

Doesn't matter? He mis-timed the punch and endangered an opponent as a result. Just because it wasn't a direct punch at the opponent doesn't mean it shouldn't go unpunished.

Like a sliding tackle. Most of them aren't a direct challenge on the opponent. Most go for the ball. But sometimes players are late and get the opposing player, instead. Therefore, a foul.

The officials have been excellent so far, but this goober is the shit standard I expected before the tournament.

Gives every little thing and loves the sound of his whistle, looks like a Spanish Mike Dean.

Guess you did not see the french dude reffing Russia-Denmark the other day. He made some pretty baffling decisions too.

There was no intent. His sole aim was to punch the ball away. Remember, football is a contact sport.

Glad the first penalty was given- too often keepers are allowed to clatter players and get away with it, going to punch can be dangerous and if contact is made with a head it should be a foul in the same way a high boot is.

I do know it's a contact sport. Doesn't mean players can get away with nearly knocking players out in the process.

Intent doesn't come to it.

But in the same vein a lot of players that tackle studs up dont mean to injure a player but if they catch someone its a red card. Therfore he deserved a red.

He is very dangerous and I can’t believe he gets away with it so often

About time a penalty was given for that kind of challenge from a keeper.

Lloris flattening Danilo.

Can remember Ian Andrews coming out and straight arm punching clough square in the face at the city ground many moons ago, laid him out cold. lol

Got away with it as well.
