It's laughable to think that people on here are seriously saying that Madison doesn't fit into a 3 man midfield when we've had ndidi, Tielemans and Madison and it's been the best combination we've seen for years.

I don't get why people are questioning where he fits in here. He fits in in a 4-2-3-1 which is the system we are best at and the one Rodgers has returned back to for the whole of pre-season.

If this is true then surely Soumare isn't going to be playing unless he unseats Ndidi, or indeed if Maddison is binned so that they can both play.

If Rodgers is planning to change the way we play this year and have the 3 man midfield of Ndidi, Tielemans and Soumaré, then I don't see a place for Maddison for most of the games, he can't play as a LW/RW.  Although I don't like the thought of losing our most creative player, I think this transfer could happen.  If he has been earmarked as the one we can afford to lose, and it will raise enough dough to improve the team, then as fans we have to trust the board & manager that they will make the correct decision.

I didn’t say that’s what I want, I’m saying it’s an option BR is clearly considering, and if we do sign a decent RW/right forward you could see him using it with Barnes on the other side. My personal opinion is that we look at our best with two up top of which one has to be Nacho because he is capable of receiving the ball a bit deeper, with Vardy/Daka further forward.

I think the plan is still 4-2-3-1 and Soumare won't be in from the off, however impressive he's been. I'm intrigued to see if Daka can play through the middle on his own because as it stands we don't seem to be very fluid when we play 2 up top as we don't have the players for 3 at the back nor are we very effectively time in a diamond.

I think Soumare only plays vs the top sides to start with or will come on with 20-25 mins to go. Fans won't want to hear that but Rodgers has pretty much indicated that him and Daka will take time to be bedded in.

I was responding to the statement that we played better at times last season without him and I'm querying when this was, given he was a mainstay in the team from December to February and him and Barnes were phenomenal.

So I'm assuming it was the start of the season and he featured in a lot of those games from the bench or started a few of them. Our performances at the start were very mixed and as I said the most impressive games were Man City and Leeds away but he played his part in those. I stand corrected on the Arsenal one but having just looked at our results last season I think the poster must be mistaken.

We need to be very careful this season, we pride ourselves on being an attacking side but we lose Maddison and with the lack of goals from the right wing and quite quickly we'll be under pressure. Vardy is another question mark because if he doesn't find his form it's going to be a dilemma for Rodgers having to drop him. The vast majority of our goals from when Rodgers joined up to Xmas 2020 were finished off by Vardy.

Likewise defensively we look vulnerable without Evans so quite quickly we could be under pressure at both ends and then things get quite precarious.

There's a section of our fans who have never taken to Maddison, but be careful what you wish for as players like him aren't easy to replace. His off the field antics have made it tempting to want him gone but at the same time we demand our team challenge for the top 6 and that's not easy. He's one of our best players and I've a feeling this season will be his best yet.

you may well be right Ric, I don't have the stats and match facts to back it up..... I just remember talking to my dad about it when he was in and out of the team (and injured, so i'll factor that in)

I thought at times our play moved more quickly without Maddison in the team. this could have been the effect of his injury, maybe he was slightly off form....  Don't get me wrong, I don't think Maddison is a bad player.....  But if you gave me a choice out of Tielemans,Barnes or Maddison as to who I would want to retain.... i'd choose Barnes and Tielemans....

that's the beauty of football and forums, we all get to discuss our thoughts.

I don't disagree, you have to earn your place as a starter and if either of them do so they must have done well.

Although this chap is a bit dodgy for transfer news I believe this is probably the truth - I don’t see why we wouldn’t just want straight up cash

Soumare so far has impressed me but we need that shit hot right winger otherwise I think his effectiveness will be negated by our limitations elsewhere.

Well God knows what's going on there. Truly baffling. Convinced its in Perez's contract that we can't sign any right-sided attacking players.

The 4321 is a great a shout, and a way to get Barnes and Maddo in the starting 11. My one reservation is who plays up top. Vardy is one of the all-time greats, but I think it’s time to make the transition

This will be Rodgers biggest dilemma to date. It looks to me like Vardy will transition to being a super sub or play in certain games and then Daka will become the main man but not straight the way and we may well have to suffer that period where Vardy isn't performing and there's then growing pressure for Daka to start, I just hope if and when that happens they Rodgers makes the right decision.

It would be foolish to write Vardy off yet but it's just as much down to him to prove some doubters wrong as it is Daka force Rodgers to start him.

No shit we’re not interested! Player swaps seem pretty rare anyway but seem to make more sense when the club buying the expensive player is in a higher league position. So their squad players would be starting players in the smaller club. The players they’re probably offering are their squad players so why would we weaken our starting 11 with Arsenals rejects?! It’s like us trying to sign De Bruyne by offering Praet as part of the deal.

The bollocks Arsenal have is unreal….. it would be like rocking up to Porsche to chop in a Ford Escort with frightening confidence.

If Auba and Lacazette perform this season , they will definitely challenge top 6. The decline might be temporary.

Mate it's called a squad. We play in 4 competitions sometimes 3 times a week. Some games we may need 2 DMs, some games Maddison may start wide, some games we will rotate. We can't just have a best 11 we need options.

Oh thanks I thought we were only allowed 11 players.
