Been reported by Romano in the Guardian so might be more substance than initially I thought to this:

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/football/2021/aug/03/arsenal-want-james-maddison-leicester-midfielder-open-to-move

But the content is more flaky than Romano’s usual stuff and isn’t far off what he said previously about Arsenal’s interest, except Maddison supposedly being open to the move.

It doesn’t actually say anything at all, the most click bait article I’ve seen for a while.

I know he's been mentioned before but, assuming Maddison goes (big assumption), I wouldn't be too unhappy if we made a sneaky bid of 30m for James Ward-Prowse.

Not a chance Southampton would let him go for that.

The issue with Cash + player, is that I look down their squad and don’t see anyone I’d want.

We’re loaded with steady players and could do with getting rid of a few. We don’t want a Willian, Xhaka etc

£70m or they can do one.

Exactly, that’s the bizarre bit. He’s playing with a higher calibre of player, in a better training infrastructure and for a better manager here. If that is what Maddison actually believes, he’s very mistaken or badly advised.

Yeah, really surprising from those journalists given their reputation. Although them saying Maddison is open to a move lends that claim more credibility.

Joining Derby would do more for his career….

If he goes, it would be about money.

Arsenal are a big brand, however outside of that, they aren’t the same draw they were 10 years ago.

I’ll state it again, I think within 5 years, Tottenham will outgrow them and would be a better, more attractive option for any player.

If he goes does anyone not think it’s because we want him to? He’s far from a guaranteed starter, goes missing for huge chucks and if we can get £60m+ to reinvest in players we want then our recent record shows we should.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d prefer to keep Maddison but I could see why we’d be willing to sell

Wouldn’t be surprised if a driving factor in moving to Arsenal and London would be his American girlfriend. I think that’s probably one of the more understandable reasons given she’s publicly said how difficult she finds lived in Nottingham. Likely to have more friends in London with her career as a model

I don't often go under the flyover anymore and head out of the city that way, but areas like that arent great, sad to see.

How do you mean?

Not saying I want him to go but when you look at the players we have you do start to wonder where he fits in. I think depending on which formation you go with it feels like Maddo or Barnes. Either that or he plays out of position.

Couple that with his injury record, off-the-field incidents and inconsistent performances it wouldn’t surprise me if they would let him go for the right offer. Particularly if they have targets in mind. A RW is absolutely key. Clearly a talent but I could the clubs thought-process.

Quite probably a good deal for all!

Rodgers may have decided that he can be replaced as he maybe talented but his baggage is not something that sits within the managers ethos even if publicly he is supportive.

If we get £60m+ then we get enough to replace him and he gets his wish a big high profile move. Whether we like it or not Arsenal are bigger than us due to its history and being in London - we can compete on the field and with this ownership maybe in 10 years we maybe more attractive globally.

as long as we reinvest I think it’s a great deal as despite his talent he’s a pain in gge arse and if he wants the move let him go - no one should ever be bigger than the club!

Lot of chat with little substance.

The Guardian story is merely a rehash of what has already been reported elsewhere. There is literally nothing new in there.

i'm with you on this. There were times last season where we looked better without Maddison.  IF we can re-invest with attacking talent to start AND to bring off the bench, then I think it's a win for us.

We have lacked squad depth in the attacking 3rd for a while, so maybe it's a case of selling one player to buy two or more....  of all the players who would be attractive to other teams, Maddison is the one I would feel most comfortable with losing.

Would I prefer him to stay? possibly....  depends which maddison turns up this year.

He a no drama person.... as long as Morgan dont have lockdown parties....😄 (blaming Morgan 😆)

Remember...without perez we have no trophy...

It was his flick with his (hip) quite a skilful move I'll let you know! That set up the f a cup goal!

What's maddison done?? 😉😉

Just a distant memory 🤪

feels like a part of this is to see what Real's hand is with Odegaard,

wasnt there reports Real where thinking of selling him and a bid around £43mil could get him.....

as for the reported bids with maybe players included, i cant see us wanting any of the players suggested in reports tbf

seeing social media stuff just confirms the top 4/6 clubs have some of the cringest fans in the world

It was very probable maddison May have been carrying an injury last season but I seem to remember it differently, when he didn't play we were clearly missing his creativity. I watched a replay of the wolves November game 2020 on sky the other day and maddison was on fire in that match, we will be a worse team without him imo but if he really has said he thinks a move will be good for him and we can't persuade him otherwise then he has to go, only want committed players at the club

When he’s fit and in form you don’t ‘fit him in,’ he’s one of those players you build your team around. Tielemans (in a very different way) is probably the only other one of those we have, now Vardy isn’t what he was.

Injury record fair enough to question.

’Off-the-field incidents?’ Apart from going to a party, what others? And do you think they should move Barnes on too then?

Inconsistent performances - I think these are related to the injury, don’t you? When fit, he seems pretty consistent - consistently rubbish at corners, but also consistently the most likely to create something.
