I'm certain this affected our performance that day And the home game ? I mean I know we can beat them. On paper we are a much better side, but we play on grass with all the failings and frailties of man. My personal opinion is that we will do them 1-2. However, apart from the league winning season, my predictive skills are notoriously suspect.
Grebfromgrebland Posted 19 August 2021 Posted 19 August 2021 This game will probably be awful to watch. They'll will try and play us on the counter like last season and if Rodgers has any sense he'll probably try and do the same. If we try and play a high line they'll destroy us again. Soumare will probably start this one instead of Madison who looked injured.
An Sionnach Posted 19 August 2021 Posted 19 August 2021 Two good teams often neutralise each other so a draw or odd goal victory should be expected. It might not be too exciting but will be an interesting marker for the season.
TMELcfc Posted 19 August 2021 Posted 19 August 2021 Heart says win head says lose- few things on Saturday that happened that we won’t get away with against these.
woollett the bullet Posted 19 August 2021 Posted 19 August 2021 7 hours ago, Angus Scott said: Why is everyone so worried about us playing these? Is it because they scored 4 against a very poor Newcastle team. We are better than them & whilst I agree it will be a tough game, one we can win. If we are panicking like this for West Ham, I dread to think what it will be like when we play one of the 4 champions league teams. West ham finished one point behind us last season over the course of 38 games. Both games against these we were tactically out thought and out fought, ( wasn't Moyes isolating at home when we played down here? ). They've hit the ground running and next week will be their first home game and under the lights they'll be bang up for it. However Brendan has a stronger squad this time round and anything is possible. Over to you sir. Hope Vardy does a bubble blowing celebration xxifxx when he scores!
NaijaFox Posted 19 August 2021 Posted 19 August 2021 We'll SMASH 'EM! ...and you can all thank me later.
Ric Flair Posted 19 August 2021 Posted 19 August 2021 Tempted for a midfield diamond of Ndidi, Tielemans, Soumare and KDH with Vardy and Barnes or Iheanacho up top. 3
z-layrex Posted 19 August 2021 Posted 19 August 2021 I know we didnt look great against Portugal but we are clearly going to do them.

Not the sort of thing you try away at West Ham second game of the season. Plus I really don’t think it would work. Diamond formation is so so hard to perfect and surely Maddison would be top of the diamond too?
justfoxes Posted 19 August 2021 Posted 19 August 2021 The referee is Michael Bloody Oliver ffs this bloke is horrendous when officiating is most times dreadful the odd occasion ok, now we’re one of the new top 6 maybe he’ll be lenient towards us ?

Dahnsouff Posted 20 August 2021 Posted 20 August 2021 (edited) Strength required else we will get bullied, start Soumare, maybe for Maddison if he is still not right Edited 20 August 2021 by Dahnsouff 1

st albans fox Posted 20 August 2021 Posted 20 August 2021 They will look to get Antonio against vesty on the ground and cags on crosses. We need to be cute defending against him. 1

I don't however blame it on the 4 at the back, more that with the inclusion of Armarty and Perez you essentially weaken your team. I think Soumare's introduction into midfield with Perez and Maddison going off helped also. Again, I think if you’d never seen Perez in a Leicester shirt before saturday you wouldn’t be singling him out as one that weakens the side. Im not his biggest fan but he did a lot of work without the ball and actually had a few decent passages of play… same with Amartey, a few poor passes (which Brendan would definitely not have a go at him for - he’s trying to play his way after all!) but he won a few really important 50/50s. 4

I certainly agree with Armarty and, all things considered, he hasn't done too bad for me either despite his detractors. However, I just think that in a two, perhaps Vestergaard would be the better option now, hence why we bought him. But, if we had a 3, then couple that with playing Perez and we're fielding two weaker elements in the team. Yes Perez worked hard off the ball, I agree, but sometimes there has to be more than that. Sometimes you have to get the ball and do something with it. I just think now that however good Armarty and Perez are as squad players, they are precisely that, squad players and we now have ample alternatives and the ability to play different formations to get the best from a group of very talented players. On Saturday, we had 40m of new talent sat on the bench next to last seasons top scorer but still played Perez who merely 'worked hard off the ball '. 1

turlo Posted 20 August 2021 Posted 20 August 2021 Madders was in the training vids released this morning so assume he's fully fit for Monday
Sunbury Fox Posted 20 August 2021 Posted 20 August 2021 These are probably the tallest, most physical team in the league - Souchek, Rice, Ogbonna, Diop, Dawson and Antonio are monsters physically and in the air. Allied to that they have excellent crossers of the ball both in open play and off set pieces, as well as real pace on the counter. As a combination, that is our worst nightmare to be facing and hence why we struggled against them last year. 1

Would therefore be a good idea to include some extra physicality of our own then in the shape of Vestergaard and Soumare. No room for Perez and perhaps bench Maddison and not risk further injury. 1
