I do worry about how Brendan will approach this game.  Agree a bit more muscle on the pitch maybe useful.  We have to match their intensity and hopefully let our better technicians do the business.

I trust Brendan as he has made far more good decisions than poor ones, but I worry when he backs off so early in a game with going into defensive mode.  With the limited options at centre half we can't play 3 at the back surely, play to our strengths and put more firepower on the pitch.  I'd be happy for Natcho to have a run instead of Perez in the advance wide right position.

I don't really see Iheanacho as a right wing option, think we see him more against teams who drop off against us, and as someone to hold onto the ball coming off the bench like he did against Wolves.

Brendan does seem to prefer to protect what we have rather than go for a second goal...especially when the opponent is on top like at the weekend, but the majority of the time that does actually work...as frustrating as it can be.

Let's admit it this is gonna be a battle and we have to arrive at their ground locked and loaded. There cannot be any tiredness excuses on this one. Rogers is meticulous about watching past games/failures so how he sets us up for this one will be massive. I agree we have a few new boys in the squad that still need more time to gel but games like these will bring them upto speed quickly (trial by fire).

Amartay wasn't too bad you just worry the longer the game goes the comfier he gets and maybe loses focus for a second and does something he shouldn't like play an obvious pass that gets intercepted. If he does that against Bowen or Antonia he will get burnt and these guys will put the ball away if you give them the chance (unlike Traore). Young Thomas has been exceptional we should give him more opportunities he has proven he can step up. Vardy starts for me but its a game we need him to give 100% an he won't last the fun 90 min so Daka should be getting ready to come on and give the Hammers something else to think about. Perez its clear is being used as a facilitator and grafter he's not getting us goals but if its working and doesnt get in the way of others than keep him.

All in all I think Rogers should have 2 teams ready. One to start and one to change to keep the intensity going. We have to continue to attack the hammers and not drop back into a defensive shell or its gonna be a looooong game to endure. COYF!!!

Vestergaard to start over Dan Amartey probably, and Ryan Bertrand in for Luke Thomas. The rest of the team picks itself.

I prefer Thomas to Bertrand...

Bertrand is/was always Cover and Bench...

We Harvest & use our youngsters, especially when they Grab the right to be recognised, and prove their potential.

Plus there are 4 competitions to waver through...Bertrand has been a Great find, on the Evans level...He s going to Play and will be a success

But we have Justin,Evans,Castagna returning.

In Thomas we have a Great player, who has up to Now been IMO exceptional  and is Qualifying his potential...

Please Dont mentions mistakes, or get beaten... its football, even Wclass Top Defenders have their bad moments...

       Kasper

Ricardo  Vestergaard  Soyuncu  Thomas

                   Dewsbury-Hall Ndidi

        Maddison        Tielemans       Barnes

                             Vardy

....seems an unbalanced team with too may players out of position!!!

Maddison wide is not an option, more likely he will not be playing. Bring Youri back into his position and if we have to shoehorn KDH then he plays the #10 role.

Rodgers will stick to Perez on the right, but I would rather see Albrighton take up that spot.

I think it will be

                       Schmeichel

          Amartey Vestegaard Soyuncu

        ricardo Ndidi Tielemans Thomas

                             Maddison

                  Vardy                Barnes

The reason west ham are so good is the way that front line has a bit of everything.

strength and areal ability in Antonio. Speed in Bowen. Skill in Benhrama.

We will be in for a battle that’s for sure and I’d expect another high scoring game.

I think Rodgers will go with a back 5.
So it will be something like

                    Kasper

        Amartey Vesty Soyuncu

Ricardo                              Bertrand
        Ndidi Tielmans Maddison

                 Vardy Barnes

I would go with a back 4 so

                     Kasper

Ricardo  Vesty Soyuncu Bertrand

       Ndidi Tielmans Soumare

         Nacho Vardy Barnes

This will be an interesting game because I think we’re going to see a Brendan “special.”

First full season here we played great but we’re dominated by Liverpool and Man City, so he made changes and got results against them next time round. Last season I’d argue that the team that dominated us the most was West Ham in both games. We simply couldn’t deal with their physicality.

I think we’ll see us start the game how we ended today - 343 with Tielemans, Ndidi and Soumare in the middle with Soyuncu, Amartey and Vestergaard at the back. West Ham’s key players for me are Antonio and Soucek. Antonio requires us to match his heavyweight boxer physicality and we have to match Soucek’s energy levels. Coufal is also one to watch but I think Bertrand will have to miss out again due to COVID.

This is a really tough game but also a measure of our progress, if there is any. I think there will be but am worried this game has come a bit too quickly because our new signings could understandably use some more time to get used to their team mates.

I think it was precisely that formation against West Ham that was our downfall,  we were overrun in midfield. Is Armarty in a 3 really better than 4 better quality midfielders or 3 midfielders and 3 dangerous strikers to keep West Ham pinned down and ask questions of them, because we didn't on the last couple of occasions.

I think Armarty has done ok but we have ample opportunity to effectively ditch our 2 weakest players now in Perez and Armarty.

I agree it's rubbish but weirdly this was the only game in the league that could've been Monday.

Not that I like Monday night, at all.

I'm probably  being thick but why?

...perhaps (regarding the second option) Nacho dropping infront of the midfield three and Barnes and Vardy upfront!!!

Plugging the midfield would be a good move but it cannot be looked at as too defensive. Ndidi covering the backline and Youri and Soumare as #8 would be solid as well as forward looking.

Nacho is inclined to drop deep so he sits behind the front two.

If he goes 3 at the back after we got embarassed last season playing the same formation then that'll be a red flag for me that the last 2 games in pre season were a bit of a false dawn.

Can’t believe how many posters are saying drop Luke Thomas, man of the match today for me.
It’s now his shirt to lose in my eyes.

It is a great position to be in, where if you miss a game through injury or suspension it’s going to be tough to get back in.

things like this just show how clueless a lot of people are who watch games.

he was man of the match after Vards

Nailed on 3412 formation

We really retreated into our shell on Saturday when Rodgers moved to this system around 60mins. Post match he said it was planned due to fitness levels, and to cut off chances and passing lines for wolves, but from where I was sitting it seemed to have the opposite effect, we lost all initiative and our players seemed incapable of stringing a few passes together. In the end we were holding on rather than comfortable.

Agree re Saturday but in fairness we’ve switched to that formation A LOT under Rodgers when in front and our record at seeing games out is pretty good I’d wager

Agree. Out the front 3 Nacho will drop deeper. Just think with the physicality of West Ham we need both Ndidi and Soumare to start. Especially when defending set pieces.

We're the only fixture that involves two teams that are in Europe, therefore the only fixture that involves two teams who won't be playing in the League Cup 2nd round midweek.
