If we're getting a player like Lookman on loan on deadline day then clearly our scouts/manager never wanted him in the first place.

i dont get the impression we ever sign anyone we havent spent an awful lot of time researching, he might be bottom of the list for this window, but im sure he was on it. the entire thing could also be a smoke screen to get neres or CHO in as well, we have seen it before with other clubs

Has anyone questioned why RB are willing to let Lookman go, albeit on loan?

Loaned last year to Fulham, didn’t they buy him (amongst loads of others) to develop?

Never settled in Germany with a combination of Leipzig's rise happening much faster than expected. Leipzig finished 2nd last season and got the the last 4 of the Champions League two seasons ago, that's quite the meteoric rise.

Lookman initially went to Leipzig on loan from Everton, and had a great loan season (5 goals in 11 appearances). That prompted Leipzig to sign him on a permanent and he then proceeded to stink up the joint (0 goals in 13 appearances). One can only hope same doesn’t happen with us.

I do, but the question is, is he better at RW than Perez?

I could be massively wrong, I probably am. But maybe signing Lookman means we might play a right footed player on the right hand side :dunno:

Have you seen us play football over the last 2 years? At what point have we needed a right winger when Ricardo has been fit and playing the way we know he can?

And who says we wouldn’t be even better if we had a good RW to complement Ricardo?

In fact, the idea behind getting a left-footed RW is having a winger that cuts inside while Ricardo goes out wide.

Just tell me what stops a "right - footed " winger cutting inside , these are professional footballers not Long John Silver.

Crazy thought but how about we just give the guy a chance. He has alot of potential and just needs the right fit. Everyone is banging on about Gray who was shit for us but looking great for Everton. Apply the same logic and who knows!

Personally think this is a good signing.

Premier league experience. Made more key passes than any of our midfield last year. He was 11th overall.

Needs to find a new home where he can blossom his undoubted talent.

There's zero risk with it being loan with option to buy.

With Brendan tutelage and arm round his shoulder and developing him this may be time he kicks on.

Wait I've checked and Lookman is Right footed.....then again so is Barnes...whats the harm in playing a right footed player on the right who can whip in crosses?

....we are not a team that works off crosses, why we continue to cross into the box (blindly most of the time) I do not know!!!

Get that ball on the ground, cut backs or square balls, drive into the box please, it is about time we played the game with intelligence, that is what Rodgers wants and we are too poor in the final third it is pretty embarrassing.

I watched more Fulham games last season than anybody should - Lookman was by far their best player every single time. People joke about Villa being a one man team with Grealish - that’s nothing compared to this guy. And he still made things happen - constantly.

He is going to absolutely tear it up and when he does I’m going to make a thread calling out each and every “underwhelmed” poster in this thread. Can’t wait for the rep points.

The only condemning thing from a recruitment standpoint is he should’ve been a main target if available and not a last minute “panic” buy - although I saw somebody mention we had been in for him early on. Which makes sense.

I'll be happily called out. I watched him twice and he was their best player both times, against us.

With a competent front man who knows what he'll do. He was next to Bobby Reid for most the season though.

There's lots of stuff in the underlying stats to suggest he could be a bit of a gem.

We'll see, no doubt he needs to improve but a few seasons ago he was talked up as one of the biggest talents in English football.

Seems like we wanted him earlier in the window but couldn't agree on terms with RB.

Maybe a case of just trying to get the best price

Did he play on the right in any of these great performances you watched of him? As I've said previously, if he's as good on the right as he is when I've seen him on the left then I'd be all for it.
