No disrespect but what a load of sh!t.

Alot of us on here rightfully laugh at the likes of Man utd and Chelsea who refuse to sign good players for modest fees because they play for a team in the championship or PL relegation zone but instead wait till they've proven themselves and then sign them for £80odd million like utd did Maguire or sell exciting young prospects like Lukaku and sign him back for £100m.

That's an utterly bonkers transfer policy that we couldn't do even if we wanted to. Signing Established players comes with significant fees that we can't compete with.

Picking young somewhat unestablished players, getting the best out them and selling them to clubs that employ this type of transfer policy works for us and is where we currently stand in the world football stage.

Fofana was £30 odd million with add ons, he wasn’t cheap ! But we identified a player that could improve us and paid up. This transfer stinks to be another panic swoop just like the Turkish chap who didn’t offer us anything what’s so ever.

Established top 6 side, should be buying Established players. Lookman isn’t established and has been playing pass the parcel for years at different clubs. I’ll be honest was hoping for a lot better!

Established top 6 sides have three times our budget and get derided for lazy shit scouting.

I think he’s a great option tbh. Obviously isn’t the ‘big name’ signing people were hoping for but that’s not to say he won’t be a success here.

When did I use the word "cheap"?

And to be fair, using Fofana as an example, rams a big dirty boaby right up the arse end of your initial point, which was that we should sign established players. Fofana was in no way Established as a top player.

This is very promising.

That’s not we do and isn’t the model that has made us successful.

Yeah but the rw position is the only place that needs sorting out. So you would have fort we would go for something special, and try push us over the line for top 4 finish.

It's amazing that if someone actually takes the time to look into the facts then Lookman actually stacks up great. The only metric that Perez was to of was tackles per 90.

Thanks for the input!

I'm not too sure about this signing but seeing that he played 2756 minutes and had 1 injury at Fulham I like very much given our recent history with injuries :)

It's hilarious how Gray has had a couple of decent games for Everton and all of a sudden we should've never let him go lol

Let's not forget he didn't show any improvement for us for the best part of 5 years under about 5 different managers.

Equally at any point did we give him a sustained, consistent run of games?

I’d say we never gave him anymore than 2, 3 at the very most in a row, most of the time he was on bench during those 5 years.

I may be totally wrong and tbh I’d genuinely be interested to know most run of games we gave him.

I know what’s gonna come back, “5 managers see him every day, they obviously didn’t see anything in him”. Meanwhile we as fans will see next to nothing from the likes of Maddison and/or Perez and they’ll be given as many games as it takes whenever available.

I gave Gray a lot of patience and time, more than most because I wanted us to sign him years before we did, eventually I lost patience mainly down to a perceived “attitude problem” with Gray but given the things I’ve outlined above, I think I’d have an attitude problem in those circumstances.

The fact Everton fans speak of Lookman the same as how some Leicester fans speak of Gray which is why they’re not getting excited about Gray yet speaks volumes and I think both sets of fans know what they’re going to get.

Last minute rush job, yes. First choice signing, clearly not. But he looked a more than capable player for Fulham and caused plenty of teams, including us, problems.

It’s a much needed body in a weak position. I’ll take it as there clearly wasn’t the budget for a huge deal more.

What’s the point of even comparing him to Perez & Albrighton, when Lookman’s stats were all built up with him playing on the left.

Those stats just tell you that Lookman is a decent LW and Perez is a shit RW.

Exactly, someone compared this signing to ghazzel. He has 2 advantages over him straight off.

1. he’s fast rachid wasn’t

2. he has proved that he can play in the premier league.

We'll soon sort that out. Booked the treatment room from mid September.

Loan with option to buy I'm happy with. I was just worried we would spunk 15 or 18m on him.

If we ever had a shortlist of wingers to pursue I doubt this guy was on it.

Panic buy and we are gonna be very very lucky if this pays off.

More like a Burnley signing than a team that wants top 4/6.

LOOKMAN, there's a place you can go,

I said, LOOKMAN, when you're short on your dough,

You can PLAY THERE, on the left or the right....

It’s one that didn’t excite me very much, but I’m slowly getting used to the idea.

We’ve signed Soumare and Daka who aren’t currently in the starting X1. You could argue that Betrand and Vestergaard wouldn’t start if we had a clean bill of health with regard to injuries.

Lookman would be competing with the likes of Perez and Albrighton. We know the value of the latter in a number of positions and also the limitations of the former. Out of all our signings Lookman might be the one who actually improves our first choice X1 from day one. Even if he doesn’t it’s not a bad squad option.

I'm warming to this now tbf, a young lad with a bit to prove who looks to be fast, direct and exciting.

The direct and exciting is the bit that is worrying me though as that's exactly what seems to be being coached out of our players for some reason.

We never let him go either , we offered him a new contract but he turned it down.  he has said in a interview recently he regrets this and feels he should of stayed and fought for his place but he let his head go down when he wasn't playing.  maybe going to Germany made him grow up mentally because he always had potential but was frustrating we did give him chances as well but he took them inconstantly, Also ill bet you most of the people winging that Lookman is not good enough were the ones calling grey garbage

....probably read the same article where he mentioned there is no reason to complicate the game!!!

I posted some time ago that it was down to how he saw the game and perhaps we needed to simplify his instructions when sending him out on the pitch. Perhaps nis new manager understands him.

I think people need to accept that, unless the those sides have exceptionally bad seasons, the top 4 is not a reality for us. The amount of money they can throw around dwarves our financial resources, and the sad facts are that money largely dictates the league position because of the quality of players you can accumulate.

I know we won the league, but under exceptional circumstances. I know we narrowly missed out twice & finished 4th. But that only proves my point really because when the going got tough & we suffered injuries we did not have the quality in depth to get us over the line. Whereas the quality that Liverpool & Man Utd had did.

Our fight this year is going to be for 5th with the strength of the teams around us having made significant improvements. I’m looking forward to see how our new players can improve us over the next few months to combat that.
