If he does go in the summer & Praet does too we'll have tidy sum to get a replacement in if Soumare/KDH aren't trusted to replace him.

Oh fvck no. If that money doesn't go on a right winger next summer I may have to finally quit foxestalk.

Soumare in some respects, KDH in others, probably?

Youri's successors' successor: Braybrooke? (Not that we should be heaping pressure on the lad, of course.)

I wonder if Maddison can move back a bit and play more often as an 8 or alongside Wilf in the double pivot and place more emphasis on him progressing the ball forward (give him more options to pass to so assisting the assister, if you like) rather than providing the killer pass?

Don't think he is, that is a huge claim, but the sentiment is valid. Unless we sign a known name, which Youri was despite being tarnished from his time at Monaco, fans will be underwhelmed as well as them being already up against it them to Youri.

He isn't on current form but when he's on one he absolutely is for me!

Some other highlights of Soumare that we've seen so far:

These are skills that Youri doesn't have, his ability to dribble and ride challenges.

But of course Youri is the best passer we've probably ever had at the club. In my mind only Gary Parker probably came close to the range of passing Youri has.

You obviously never saw David Gibson.

We can have a net spend £20-£30m usually, £50m for Tielemans, £15m for Praet so we should have c. £90m for a midfielder, winger and whoever else we might need.

Not to mention any other dribs and drabs from selling the likes Mendy/Choudhury

Mahrez played some unreal passes with us. Tielemans produces fantastic passes more regularly but I don't think he's ever played a ball like Mahrez's for Vardy at West Brom.

We already have him, Boubakary Soumare. He's a different type of player because he's more of a traditional box-to-box player than a rolls-royce passing type of player, but functionally achieves the same thing; progressive ball carries.

This season is all about developing his game and improving him, we should start to expect to see top level performances in 2022.

There have already been some glimpses of what he can do so far in some games already:

We probably would then also buy a player who is a refined passer of the ball too, but Soumare is 100% the player signed to take over from Youri.

Good point.

Our recruitment is one of the best in the league. We signed Soyuncu while Maguire was here / We signed Justin with Chilwell still here etc etc.

I do think the fact we have a lot of CMs is because the club half expected Youri to leave this summer. Soumare looks great he’ll be perfect to replace Youri in the starting 11.

Like someone else said you can’t really replace a CM like Tielemens as he’s already world class. Just like when lost Mahrez you can’t replace that level.

We’ll always be underwhelmed anyway. I bet Everton fans were excited when they signed James Rodriguez and underwhelmed when they signed Gray.

I was underwhelmed with our signings prior to the 2015/16 season… look how that turned out.

Just goes to show really us fans know fc*k all. I trust our recruitment team… although slightly worried by the recent Vestergaard signing  😳

We're probably going to need a CB again in the summer as well Tbf and if we're not going all out to make a RW our absolutely top focus there's no point doing it because we'll end up with more muck.

Of course this does all change if Lookman turns out to be deal of the century.

I'm not sure that first clip is a good example of dribbling skills.  He doesn't beat his man and ends up with three players set in front of him, turning back and passing it square.

An incisive Youri-style pass would have been much better.

Definitely stronger on the ball though.

Ah, what a player. He could ping a ball 50 yards or more onto the toe of a receiving player and on a mudheap of a pitch. Halcyon days!!

Kept the ball though instead of losing it amongst 3 players and being on the back foot...?

In all seriousness, this is the answer. I started making peace with Youri leaving next year as soon as he signed.

I think Soumare can play the same position as Youri, but he's not a like for like replacement.  He's more of a hybrid of Youri and Ndidi, a traditional two-way midfielder.  Faster and more physical than Tielemans (well, Princess Anne is faster and more physical than Tielemans), but not as creative or refined and never will be.  Better on the ball and picking a pass than Wilf (well, Princess Anne is...) but lacking the defensive instincts and ballhawking ability.  Not the equal of either at what they're best at, but better than either at the weaker aspects of their game.

If Soumare is a straight-up replacement for Tielemans, you better make up for that gap in creativity from somewhere - be it another MF (maybe KDH, too early to tell) alongside him, or an in-form creative #10.  Otherwise Youri's absence will create a hole Soumare isn't capable of filling.
