The club are also going to have to invest in more powerful T-shirt cannons.  ^_^

Or maybe Top just swings round from his exec box with a t-shirt cannon ….

Who was it sharing that seating design from Germany where the top tier basically sits over the bottom tier? It seemed really room efficient at the time while getting top tier seated fans closer to the pitch etc. I really think they should do that with the Kop and Family stand expansions in time now that they’re expanding the concourses back.

Seems like the extension is going to line up and be level with the bit that sticks out so still leaves a sizeable area outside the North stand

Ah ok so not a lot of difference then.

Feels like it's one of those designs you can only really judge in person. Overall though another amazing investment by our owners.

Has there been any info yet on reduced capacity while it's being built; how long for and by how much? Can't imagine it's something they can knock up during the close season!

KSS that are building it did Liverpool's extension too and the plan is to do exactly the same again with ours. Build it in over the existing stand during the season and all of the connection and final touches will be done during the summer break. I've read somewhere that the access into the East Stand would change during construction so that fans would enetr & leave via the emergency entrances at the ends of the South & North stands. There will be disruption no doubt just in terms of access and probably a lack of roof for the East Stand for a few months but they're trying to avoid any reduced capacities

Couple of things from leafing through the travel plan:

  • the club is going to ask the council for the new free bus service (planned from autumn 2022) to stop at the stadium on matchdays
  • the club will control around 1,300 parking spaces around the stadium in total (they say this will be "broadly comparable" to existing proportion)
  • they have intentionally not created more spaces, in order to minimise traffic in the area on matchdays and encourage people to use public transport/walk
  • there is a target to reduce the proportion of people driving to the stadium on their own by 10% in the long term - with this being made up with more lift-sharing, walking and small increases in bus and train use

And also:

  • the club is seeking permission to hold up to 10 non-football events a year at the ground with a maximum capacity of just under 49K (currently they can host up to 5 with a maximum capacity of 36K)
  • they envisage using the arena mostly for smallish corporate events/trade shows on weekdays, with shows/concerts on weekends
  • they plan to hold Christmas events during December, with Asian weddings every weekend during the summer months
  • the new walkway ("the Avenue") will be aligned with the proposed new wider pedestrian crossing over Aylestone Rd

could be great if they get some big bands in.

Cov have had a few massive bands play there over the years, would be good to get some in the summer months and i am sure the local businesses would like it to.

Should use it as a chance to reduce the away allocation, we have the biggest away end in the league.

Been saying this for years.
always seems wrong that we give a bigger allocation to Man Utd, Liverpool etc than they give to us

Would be fantastic to take those large tours off Cov's hands.

really would as when i went to see the Rolling Stones there it is an absolute nightmare to get in and out!

When Kasabian played at the KP was wondering why there was never more bands as it was great to be able to just walk in from the city.

It was called the "Suprastadio" and made a few waves about 5-6 years ago. Supposedly, Dresden was going to use it on a much smaller scale (Images here https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threads/dresden-ddv-stadion-32-066-45-775.1209185/page-2), but nothing has really happened.

Would not fancy being anywhere in those top tiers, I'm not great with heights :D I would not be comfortable at all

No additional seats on the North and south stands just the concourses being expanded. But I don’t see it being a big stretch to add a few more rows on and then change the roof to match that of the new stand.

All being well after the whole master plan has been completed, I wouldn’t be surprised if the west stand had a similar make up. Here’s a very rough mock up based upon the new drawings

Maybe but the advantage at the moment is those fans can be escorted quickly to their buses if the buses are further away it increases the chance of trouble and you'd need more police.

Wouldn’t they just have the busses on the old substation - with proper access straight onto Aylestone Rd instead of going to Narborough Rd. I think that would be as short a journey on foot and even shorter coach journey through the crowds?

Maybe but space doesn't seem to be a problem so they'll probably carry on as now unless they move the away fans

are there any plans for safe standing in the build?

and 50k sounds good.

My guess any decision/announcement on safe standing will be after the trial period ends at the close of this season. But if succeeds, and the other "big clubs" -- especially Liverpool -- do it, I can't see them not dipping their toe in.
