The "overachievement" thing has rubbed off on the players then.

Based on who's available and the fact I want Nacho and Daka playing, while binning 3 at the back I'd say..

Schmick

Rick Amartey Evans Castagne

Ndidi

Kdh Soumare

Maddison

Nacho Daka

Rick and Castagne basically playing as wingers because we need goals.

Richard Pereira is out for a couple of weeks, so I'd pop Castagne on the right and Thomas at LB.

I think they're getting confused with over achievement and maximising their ability as a team. There's also a bit of a narrative in life that those really talented can still achieve without trying as hard, which isn't us but that's missing the point.

Why on earth would we want to play 3 at the back against a poor team that hasn't won a game since we last played them and who are languishing in their league?

Have we not learned anything about not being able to play that system without proper wingbacks?

They're going to sit back and we're going to have to break them down. Are we going to break them down with that lack of ambition? If we don't win then we may as well pack upon and go home.

That's 4 at the back though isn't it?

I agree though, if we don't switch to a 4 against these lot then we've got no chance of changing anytime soon!

Looking forward to watching real football on Thanksgiving for a change.

Rodgers needs to keep this simple and uncomplicated for every player. A place to let emotion and energy play out. If I could I'd take 9 Albrightons, a Vardy and a Schmeichel and go to war.

That to me looks like 3cb's Armarty, Evans Soyuncu with Castagne and Albrighton either side?

Need Benks/Yannick on the bench as a 'special teams' members that we can bring on for corners.

Can't help but feel it'll be the last time we'll see our club (at home) in Europe for quite a while.

The only reason i'm going.

You must be a right masochist Matt. If I genuinely thought there was no hope (as opposed to just the general pessimism loaded with foreboding, countered by "here for the beer" and just blind hope that it could be one of those epics) you wouldn't catch me anywhere near.

If I was in Jake's position I think o would seriously be contemplating watching it in the tellybox/dodgy stream.

Ps. Reason for such a late response is due to the last match putting me off football for a bit and missing the international break 😱🧘💆

mentioned it's about wanting to grow

There's this weird thinking in football about constant growth. You can't. Not even the big sides with unlimited money can do that. We competed in the top 4 for 99.9% of the last two seasons. We won the FA cup. Yes that is overachieving for us. We are not a top 4 side. A top 4 side buys our players when they've come to form (Chilwell, Magauire, Mahrez etc) we don't buy theirs. They spend 80+mil on players and pay them half a mil a week. We don't do that. Our three main strikers are a ManC reject, a young prospect from the Austrian league and old man Vardy. I love them all! Our "level" if we're lucky is the next tier down. So to have spent two seasons essentially in the tier above means yes we were over achieving. This isn't being negative or defeatist, it's just reality. It's the reason when we over achieve we can revel in it and say we're missing it up and scaring the dominance of the big teams.

Nobody is saying where we're currently situated in the league and how we're currently playing is our actual level and we should be happy with it. I've not heard Rodgers say it, any of the players, nobody on here.... nobody. So can people stop saying it like they have? I genuinely don't understand what the objective is lying about it.

An early goal is important tomorrow. Get the fans going, push the players. The rest will come.

I think if we go 1-0 up within 10 minutes, we will cruise the game and push on. The longer they keep us out, the more frustration and impatience will build. I would imagine a similar game to Spartak where they defend and have hardly any chances to go forward.

Yeah they will sit with ten men behind the ball. I guess that they’ll be thinking that a point tomorrow and a win against Spartak will be enough as that will take them onto ten. I doubt that they’ll offer much going forward but I wouldn’t be surprised if they sucker punch us somehow. Like you say, we need to get a few early goals as quite frankly, I back us to concede in every single game at the moment.

With Spartak winning and Legia’s poor form domestically i’m going to bet every pound I have on Leicester losing tomorrow.

Bar the FA Cup, this team and manager just never turn up when they need too.

As long as we score before conceding a corner…

It’s clearly a back 4, he’s even lined them up as a back 4 lol

I will be stuffing my face with sweet potatoe pie and turkey when this comes on. Probably be drunk as well. With that being said, I just hope we come out with some enthusiasm and I just have a feeling we will get an early goal and see it out and get a good result.

As per usual agai still Eastern European opposition we'll create a few very good openings in thr early minutes but not be switched on to take them and then we'll get frustrated and they'll likely take the lead with their 1st chance and ensue a horrid evening trying to overturn it.

Words from Brendan:

But Rodgers said: "I've been really pleased with what I've seen with the work we've done.

"We haven't had a great deal of time, but we've been able to do some great work and hopefully we'll see that out on the field of play."

so guess he's had them practicing zonal marking and passing backwards.

...perhaps going with suggestions by Kolo, as opposed to sticking to an idealistic way of defending!!!

Sometimes the manager's idea is not the same as the specialist Coach, and he (Rodgers) will have the last say. It would be good if that is what is happening, as it would be a good thing for Rodgers, regarding additional input and the ability to take other options onboard.
