After our considerable outlay on the training ground and hopefully the stadium; clearly looking to shake things up on the recruitment and development side with a few on the summer / transfer windows after when we’ve got some dough to begin a new push. Exciting times.

Unless we’re setting up that position— not saying we’re getting Edwards but it makes sense for us to restructure under a sporting director. This will help us set up our recruitment and youth development to more seamlessly fill in gaps when we’re dealing with injuries or the inevitable transition that occurs every few years.

There's no way we're going down the sporting director route as that's essentially Rudkin's role as D.O.F

You have decided who has made those transfers yourself. And you’ve said the bad ones are a result of Rodgers/Congerton but then given them no credit for the good ones?

Well, I explained exactly why that is the case....Our transfer policy before Congerton/Rodgers arrived would not have involved big contracts and fees for aging players with no future like Vestegaard/Bertrand, so it's obvious they're the fault of Congerton/Rodgers.

Justin/Fofana for example, follow the trends our recruitment team have followed for years, therefore, I struggle to see how you can suggest Rodgers/Congerton deserve credit, for something that was put into place, before they arrived.

I think theres going to be an element of truth in this. Where the lines cross though, you never know.

Fuchs was a break from the mould but because he was successful it was down to Walsh... if he’d been a Bertrand would it have been a managers signing?

Bertrand on paper made sense. We didn’t have money and missed out on our top choice after failing to get top 4. Not the best signing in hindsight but as a gap fill it’s a limited pool

Vesty and Bennett were both panic buys.

it’s more the long term signings that we should judge recruitment on as most clubs tend to fudge the panic buys.

although I’m pretty sure tielemans loan signing was a last minute deal.

Apart from Daka last summer’s transfer window added little to strengthen the squad save for numbers. I wish him all the best but a different approach may be beneficial in the long run. No short term fixes in January please. With an ageing Evans and weakness/ recurring injuries in that area another upcoming Fofana would not go amiss

Neither Bertrand or vestergaard are on big contracts nor cost big fees? We have regularly signed ageing players through the years as they provide useful experience. Huth, Cambiasso, Evans, Jakupovic, Silva, Inler & Fuchs all arrived before Rodgers and Congerton.

I think they're both on decent contracts. They were on 60k plus at soton.

Bertrand managed to somehow get a 2 year deal out of us even when we originally only wanted to offer 1 year - players on frees always tend to have slightly higher wages and signing on fees also

Vestergaard in total will have cost us around £25m by the time his contract with us ends if his wages are still around £60k a week

Bertrand stalled in the last week and said he needed a 4 year contract which was why he missed the first week of pre season.

Thank god they didn't fall for it.

He’s not the only one that has gone / leaving or changed role.

Paul Mitchell - Malmo

Trevor Peake - Retired

Steve Beaglehole - Part time 1 day a week coach and some scouting.

Ben Petty is overseeing the U23s I believe?
Adam Barrdell is doing the U18s I believe?
Paul Cheaney - Head academy coach development

Paul McGuinness - Head of academy player development

We’re actively recruiting for a youth scout.

We still need a new permanent U23 head coach which will be interesting to see if they do recruit one or give it Petty and then there's a few scout positions we are recruiting too.

One of the best things about this season is the off pitch departures.

McGuinness is a great appointment.

McGuiness is highly thought of. Didn’t he spend 20+ years at Manchester United?

You can add Perez to that celebrity list as well as a prime example.
