I think he’s done a pretty decent job since he’s been here, hasn’t he?

I know there was lots of negativity about his appointment when he arrived but that list of names is pretty impressive. Some great arrivals, some not as good, and a few the jury is still out.
I wish him all the best in Italy.

Part of me thinks this  but another part thinks “ that’s Atalanta f****d then “lol

Hardly been as bad as some are making out, obviously made some poor signings but nobody is going to have a 100% hit record are they

Would you employ him looking at his CV pre LCFC and what hes done here?

If you take out the frees Under, Lookman, Bennett, Bertrand which is bargain bin shopping and Tielemans because he was already in the building.

It leaves this:

Excellent business Fofana, Justin, Daka

Good: Castagne

OK: Praet, Perez, Soumare

BAD: Vestergaard,

You could stick Perez in bad for value for money.

Good out weighs the bad for me.

Let be honest people made the mind up about the guy before he arrived.

You could easily put Perez in bad because he cost £30M and I still think it’s too early to judge Daka as excellent, although the signs are good.

The reality is it’s always very hard to judge head of recruitments. Rodgers has said himself that “recruitment starts and finishes with me”, so how many of those signings were Rodger’s call? Also how many were previously scouted under the previous regime? We tend to chase players for quite awhile.

Previously we wisely avoided signing from other PL clubs. Perez, Vestergaard and Bertrand (with wages included) will have costed us approximately £90m over the course of their contracts here.

yep absolute mug signings, have we signed a decent player from another prem side for money ever (albrighton, huth & evans all essentially free signings)

Remember people shitting themselves when we signed him but our transfer dealings have largely been superb since he joined.

Justin, Fofana, Castagne and Daka are standouts.

Conspiracy theory alert............

Is this Congerton leaving because he knows something is afoot??  maybe he knows that Rodgers is off to pastures new in the summer and can't follow him?

obviously, it could also very well be a bloke just building his own career and going in his own direction... but him and rodgers are pretty much hand in hand throughout their careers...

not that I'm claiming Rodgers is going to Atalanta by the way.... but maybe somewhere that they wouldn't allow congerton to follow....

His record for signings who at the time were expected to be squad players initially is good

His record for signings who at the time were expected to go into the first team is terrible

Perez, Under, Lookman, Vestergaard possibly even Bertrand at the time of being signed were arguably expected to go straight into the starting 11 upon joining, that is shocking - Castagne is the only “expected starting 11” signing he has made that has been good

That is what makes him underwhelming for him

Overall it started well but seems to have gotten worse in the quality of players we have been signing

How many of them are purely Congerton alone or recommendations from our scouting department? Credit where credit is due though either way they were signed on his watch wether he recommended them himself or realised the value of listening to our scouting department.

Good assessment.

Justin deserves to be in some sort of "god like" catergory above excellent to get a young English player for 10 million who's that good in this day and age defys belief.

And I would have castagne in the excellent category.

Not sure what his role is exactly but if if it includes outgoings he deserves praise for getting 130 million for Maguire and Chillwell.

No different to what happened with Walsh and Macia

All leaving to get a more senior role

Interestingly both were binned off within a couple of seasons were doing poorly

Been a clear deterioration in the quality of our recruitment over time as he got his feet under the table and the target lists from before his time were replaced by those after he joined.

Thought he would be worse.

....if I  recall, one person will  not dictate who we bring in, as their acquisition is viewed as a group!!!

His previous history is mitigated by the way we are set up, and it will be the same for the next man coming in.

Justin and castagne were heavily linked to Celtic so you would presume at least those two.

Anyway signing players is a collaborative process. It's not like Congerton and our scouting department are 2 separate entitys they would be working together sharing info its difficult to pin point credit or blame to one and not the other.

Justin was being linked to us way before Congerton came in. Castagne is the main one I think Congerton gets credit for as he'd been a target for them at Celtic. Fofana/Daka are signs that there's still life in the old dog but I'm surprised at how many people don't think our recruitment has dipped since he came in.

Wow, that's a curious one.

All the best Lee, you were nowhere near as bad as what I feared you'd be. Which in many ways shows its probably the model and project already in place at clubs where he's been. We have a great track record and a model that keeps going regardless of incoming and outgoings in the recruitment department.

Walsh and Macia both bombed after leaving the system and having to develop their own - luckily for Congerton it looks like he is going into a good one at Atalanta already

What's Steve Walsh doing these days? That said, I think his rep got destroyed at Everton.

...their was a lot if quality brought in at his time at Everton!!!

It seemed an enviably club to walk into with the squad that they had. Their only problem was the man at the helm who could not bring it all together. It was a shopping spree attempt to kick start a big club, but they still struggled to bring in the right man to take them forward, and Kenwright is very much still there, as an anchor.
