Not that I'm claiming Rodgers is going to Atalanta by the way.... but maybe somewhere that they wouldn't allow congerton to follow....

No way would Atalanta oust their current gaffer for Rodgers. Just look at his Serie A record for the last six seasons.

What's Steve Walsh doing these days? That said, I think his rep got destroyed at Everton.

Walsh was great at finding value “way back” when data-driven scouting was still distrusted, bigger clubs disdained obscure signings, and you could spot obvious gems like Kante in the bargain bins.

Everton was indication that he can’t work his magic at an upper-middle-class club in an age of unlimited data, when most clubs are looking at the same players.  Clubs are looking for scouting connections in poorer footballing countries, and incremental advantages in analysis.  Probably not his strengths -- but what we should be looking for in our next DoR.

Under, Lookman were cheap last minute squad fillers, not sure they was any expectation they would be regular starting 11 players.

I still think Under was a huge mistake. We made a big fuss about signing Soyuncu’s childhood mate, then didn’t play him, Heskey even said in an interview he was puzzled why he was brought in, then sent back to Roma. Our Turkish fans mentioned, and I find it hard not to disagree, that this must have negatively affected Soyuncu. At least Vester filled a gap at short notice, and Perez played and won medals, and Bertrand had no transfer fee; Under is still the strangest signing for me.

Impossible to know one why or another.

I always see transfers as a collective effort

I think I read it in a press release when he first arrived ie something like they'd been tracking or looking at JJ for a couple of seasons.

I think all potential new signings should be subject to a FT Poll.  I say this because FT never ever lets facts cloud opinions or judgements. The obligatory YouTube highlights video plus members' experiences of the said player on 'FIFA', will cut out the chances of signing absolute Turds that cannot be flushed away.

He was brought in because we had no money for a RW and a loan was a cheap option, it was a shot to nothing. Worked out we had a option to buy and if no we could simply return him.

He didn't play because he was pretty average.

In the MLS I think.

Got a lot of flak at Everton but this extract made me laugh and sums that club up in a nutshell:

"In addition to the expensive players that Everton signed, Walsh also recommended Hull duo Andy Robertson and Harry Maguire for a combined £20 million and teenage Norwegian striker Erling Haaland for €4 million; Everton rejected the trio, whose values soared years later."

Walsh showed Erling Haaland around Everton, and incredibly they didn't sign him. Truly unbelievable!

Don’t know how much of this was due to Congerton but swooping in and getting Daka was incredibly shrewd.

I think every other club just figured Daka to Liverpool was a done deal but as soon as there was an opening, we jumped right in and closed it.

He's at Real Madrid now, isn't he?

The Madrid move didn't happen for some reason and he was heavily linked to Newcastle last month but it's gone quiet since. Probably another one who wants a DoF/Sporting director role.

That would be down to Rudkin no? Concertons job was just to identify targets

Anyone know what the link to him getting this job is? Is Arnesen part of the set up there or someone he has worked with previously?

Just seems very random especially to go to a club that have basically taken our recruitment model pre Lee, and made it work in Europe.

Especially interesting time for him going there too given their ageing squad needs a new round of talent identification and sharpish.

Not good timing with the January window soon to open, unless we're doing no business or all deals are already in place.

Or alternatively it could be perfect timing! The club, unlike us will be aware of which of our current signings he's had most influence on.

The problem I have with his signings, is that the bad ones are clearly a result of Congerton/Rodgers impact, as the likes of Vestegaard and Bertrand specifically, are a complete contrast to our usual recruitment.

Justin, for example, is the type of signing we have made for years....And Fofana is a further example of our excellent scouting in France that unearthed Kante and Mahrez. Sure, the fee was higher, but I think that's more to do with us now being able to purchase players in that price bracket. Daka too, has been linked as a 'Vardy replacement' for a long long time now.

Rodgers's arrogance and ego with transfers hasn't helped the perception of Congerton though.

Poll results are in:

53% Gerrimin

60% Pass, he's sh*te

1% Who? Never heard of 'im

99%  Who? Never heard of 'er

23% Got a great record with Lithuanian players

32% Has Kasper approved?

100% Should've paid attention in maths class
