Phil Read , former Moto GP champion.  Also Chrissy Rouse, British Superbike racer who has died today after an accident at Donington on Sunday.

Before it was Moto GP. He was actually a double consecutive world champion winning the premier class in 73 and 74 and seven times world champion being the first to win 125, 250 and 500cc titles in addition to the 250 championship. Never the most popular figure in the paddock, he will nonetheless be remembered as a legend of the sport.

This is terrible. I knew that he had been placed in an induced coma, but just heard the news. Was a real natural talent on the ascendancy and so young.

As far as I'm aware, talented actor, singer and all-round Geordie Renaissance Man Jimmy Nail has not died.

 

However, could I just take a moment to say that, when that sad day does finally come round, it will be the final nail in his coffin?
