One of my all-time favourite films.

Yes  Das Boot was gripping and also in my list of favourites. The uncut version in German with subtitles (assuming you don't speak German) is the best. For any of the younger posters here with an interest that have not seen it highly recommended.

Indeed, very highly.

There are several versions, even of the Wolfgang Petersen film. It was released in the cinema originally and now a directors cut is available

However, a couple of years after the original cinema release, the TV mini series appeared which is the original film with many more scenes.

This is often referred to as the version to watch and assume is the version recommended by @Foxdiamond

That's the one. Cheers

The Queen 😪

It’s official (I hope this can be taken in the jest that it was intended in and I apologise if anybody is offended by Limmy’s tweet).

Sad news.

I hadn't read anything of hers until about 6 months ago. Finally read "Wolf Hall" and it was one of the best books I've read in years.

Not only had she clearly done an extraordinary amount of detailed historical research, but for a long book I found it really accessible - not a tough read, at all.

It really gave you the feeling that you were experiencing the sights, sounds, scents and tastes of Tudor England (impossible to know how realistic that was, but it felt realistic).

Also superb characterisation - richly drawn main characters & a host of interesting minor characters. The plot created suspense, too, despite being slow-moving....or slow, slow, slow, very quick, when someone fell out of favour and got thrown in the Tower, executed or whatever....

I suppose the good news is that she wrote a lot of other stuff, including 2 further instalments of Wolf Hall, which are also highly rated....
