The two FA Cup replay dates will be used for sure, they will also surely look at adding an extra week on to the end of the season.

I know UEFA have this weird thing where you can’t play league games on European nights, but the PL are going to have to tell them to piss off.
Seriously how many people are going to say nah I won’t watch PSG v Real because Everton are away at Burnley on the other channel.

Everton v Burnley doesn’t need to be on tv ?

there are enough free weeks to play four or perhaps five midweek games after Jan

And the PL board are putting clubs under pressure to play rearranged games asap because they have no idea when the situation will ease

in theory, we could be cancelling games throughout feb, March and April  - no one knows. Who is to say another variant doesn’t appear once omicron has eased ?

Athletic says there are midweek slots in April and May.

As gutting as it was at the time, you could argue worked out for us to not reach the semi finals of the league cup with the fixture postponements and ongoing European Conference.

Would be foolish for the PL to try to rearrange in January with cases continuing to rise.

But wouldn’t be surprised if they tried.

I’ve heard a lot of talk around postponing/delaying the World Cup.
that would only happen if most of the other top leagues around the world have the same level of outstanding matches as the premier league. I’m not sure what La Liga, Serie A etc is like.

That needs to stop as it's disrespecting (even racist) the competition if Ian Wright's opinion on AFCON is to be followed.

Heard that sort of thing too.

Depends on who is in Europe or not .

In hindsight yes, as we'd be going into both those games without any fit strikers, Vestergaard our only fit CB and limited options to rotate in several positions

They could just knock the replays on the head. Make it a 1 leg Semi in the league cup.

EFL already rejected the league cup being one-leg only when they sat down to work all this out a week or so ago.

Whatever they do shouldn't give an advantage to the the sides that have cancelled the fixtures. The sides that haven't played 2 in 3 days should be squeezing their games into similar slots for replays - so playing Sunday & Tuesday or Thurs & Sat.

Haven’t checked the international schedule but just because England are playing a friendly, doesn’t mean that nations on the other side of the world are playing equally meaningless games. Plenty of World Cup qualification yet to play for.

May well be an option to just play league games through it and tell the clubs to suck it up if their players are on duty.

Pretty sure we played Chelsea in 2015 on a CL night. So UEFA do allow it, they just prefer not to if can be avoided.

Have we got another international break this season?

I've been trying to find fixtures but can't seem to find any, from memory there is usually one in March isn't there?

The next England fixtures I can see are in June.

4 games in 11 days in June incidentally, so i'm taking it players who play internationally (Admittedly I don't know if most international teams will have that schedule, you'd assume so) won't be getting a break this again this summer.

04/06/22 - Hungary v England (Nations League)

07/06/22 - Germany v England (Nations League)

11/06/22 - England v Italy (Nations League)

14/06/22 - England v Hungary (Nations League)

*No idea where those game are being played and if there is any travel involved but either way it all seems pretty ridiculous.

And this notion about the Christmas schedule being moaned about and blamed, I'm not sure how we can have a sensible discussion about if we're not going to ask likewise questions or hold the international schedule accountable for filling up the calendar in such a way.

So it'll be ending the season in late May, straight into 4 internationals in June, starting next season in August, into a mid-season World Cup, restart of the season ending in May 23...Break?

Early March ??

For the play offs I imagine.

Also there is an extra one I think at the end of January/start of February because of World Cup qualifying games in other continents like South America.

We (England) have 2 friendlies in March, but they haven't announced the opponent or where they'll be played yet. Speculation is it's going to be at Wembley or a home stadium for both games to make up for the lost revenue from fans being banned in the Nations League.

Talk of us getting to the final of the ECL is nuts as well btw, we'll be lucky to make the last 8 with Rodgers recordlol

If he can play centre forward or centre back, definitely get him in...

We've had enough people from Southampton this year, thanks.

If we don't pause the league whilst AFCON is going on then the same should be the case for qualifying matches in other continents. Just play PL games without S American players.
