Youri and Maddison are too lightweight? They've been part of one of the best midfields in the league over the last few years prior to this season. They also produce over 20 goals a season between them.

...in the long run we will have to make a choice!!!

Maddison and Youri are a luxury and since the introduction of KDH we are experiencing the bit of grit that has been  missing from this team. We seem to be looking to shoehorn Maddison and when Youri is out of the team Maddison seems happier even when dropping deeper.

Overall this team is weak, mentally and physically, and we need to get to grips with that. Should Youri leave, we might be able to put out a more balanced team, with the bite in the middle with KDH, without having to be clever in the way we try to shoehorn players into the team.

We have conceded over 90 goals since the beginning of last season and that is a failure in midfield as much as in defense.

That's not at Maddison or Tielemans door at all. Maddison presses and intercepts well for a #10, I put it down to the team as a whole seemingly not in sync with one another. They've proven from March 19 to Feb 21 that they were part of one of the best midfields in the league.

Rodgers needs to get back to Ndidi being the destroyer and Tielemans and Maddison playing to their strengths. Right now the midfield diamond is the best way in my opinion with KDH in there too.

How are they a luxury? They've been part of one of the most consistent teams in the league for 2 whole years. They aren't the problem, they really aren't. Wow

Compare them to Fabinho and Henderson. Those two are 50% defenders ,they shield the CBs very effectively . We have two mainly attacking midfielders and a DM who is , for whatever reason , off form. You are right though KDH needs to play so the diamond is the only option and that means no wingers.

This was never an issue before. Liverpool opt for non creative central midfielders but explosive full backs and 3 dynamic wingers/forwards.

I actually think we were unique having the ability to essentially play x two 8's with one midfield destroyer and a back 4 and it absolutely worked. I get things change and maybe that means those 2 can no longer play with just 1 adacM but I think this isn't them that's the problem and more the overall team system but if we cannot tweak it to fix it then we have a real problem. Defensively we are a disgrace.

...I  am not saying that they are the cause of all of our ills!!!

If we play Youri in a diamond, he is not at his best. We struggle with the double pivot, at the moment. We lack the necessary physicality in the middle and sooner or later we are going to have to drop one of Maddison or Youri.

We do not match up with the big teams, we have a tendency to be overan in the middle because of playing with just the two.

We either keep Youri and offload Maddison but I cannot see us retaining both even if we did not need to sell to finance the rebuild.

Nb. Consistent is not a word you can surely use to describe our team.

Consistent in the sense that from March 2019 to Feb 2021 we were averaging nearly 2 points a game, we're never lower than top 5 in the form table in the last bit of the 2018/19 season and then we're in the top 4 for 95% of the next 2 seasons. Yes we had some slumps (we're in one now that has lasted a year) but the midfield was never really an issue until we lost Maddison and Barnes in Feb last year.

Ndidi is all over the place at the minute and not in a good way but this notion Maddison (having his best season) and Tielemans are an issue is not correct, I'm not having that at all.

Why is this not on TV if there are no champions league games? Bit of a joke

I suspect the FA Cup contract prohibits a TV clash with Premier League matches.

See it as a positive and watch a filum or summet instead.

Evans the only player who's a long while off a return then. Good to have Vardy and Ricardo available again. Justin a week away, Fofana and Castagne 2-3 weeks weeks.  Important players so you'd hope that can bolster our confidence.

Imagine if we had a fully fit squad in April and May (minus Evans), it would be a miracle. Sure someone else will get injured in the next few games though...

Yup back to 4-1-4-1 when we played our best football and could dominate games.  Mind you we had a back 4 of Ricky-Evans-Soyunchu-Justin which allowed us to play with confidence going forward.  We haven't had that luxury for a long time.

Castagne had another injury, alongside his thigh thing?

Quality player but seems so injury prone.

Nahh his shoulder thing has been going on for ages

His shoulder would occassionally dislocate and they would just pop it back in on the side of the pitch and he would carry on playing

They have just decided as he would be off from his thigh operation that they might as well do it at the same time

He had issues with his shoulder for a while, sure we’ve put it back in drawing a game before.

If you are in your 20s and you dislocate your should it’s is more likely to happen again.

imagine he has had a shoulder injury for a while that didnt affect him but as he was having one op he may as well have another.

Cheers fellas. I thought he'd picked it up while recovering from the thigh injury, because with his record here it appears as if he's made of biscoff biscuits.

Curious to know the longest run of games he's put together here in 3 years.
