Premier League 2022/23 Thread

The entries for this next season edition look a lot stronger from the Big 5 leagues - Juventus, Eintracht Frankfurt and Lille.

Was a huge failure at Roma when he left Sevilla. Think it would take an extraordinary amount of money to get him moving away again.

His whole shtick is actually similar to what Rodgers says he likes to recruit and work with. You know when Rodgers came out with that complete drivel about "broken" footballers? People who used to be hyped as having big potential but then just never really delivered and their careers are in decline? That's Monchi's whole MO.

I'm not entirely convinced it works as well in a league as competitive as the Premier League. I'm not sure I see the likes of Lucas Ocampos, Erik Lamela, Suso or Jesus Corona taking Aston Villa to new heights.

It didn't exactly work for Everton.

Mac Allister to Liverpool confirmed then...shame really that they are going to continually get poached by the so called big 6.

It'll be big 7 soon sadly.

Will likely happen more. As More older talent moves to Saudi, these clubs will just poach more from the mid table crew.

Sadly It's the start of the end for Brighton.

Brighton know they will lose players & Brighton know they need squad depth to compete next season.
They are about to lose 2 of their better players Mac Allister gone & Caicedo to follow, looking at the squad you could probably say there will be a few sniffs at some of the others maybe Sanchez, March, Mitoma maybe even Lamptey although having not recovered fully from a knee injury so if not this maybe next season.

Now Mac'Allister gone but for £35m, ok rising to 55m, if certain targets met but that's someway short of what we sold our assets for & argueably not our best assets, also whilst they want £80m+ for Caicedo will they actually get that, maybe they will given he extended his contract this season (what was he thinking?)
So issue 1 are they getting max gain from selling their most important players, £35m for MacA suggests not

Issue 2, since we won the league we have paid over £30m just 5 times for transfers thats 5 times in 7yrs , Brighton look to be doing this twice in the space of a few weeks with the capture of Pedro for a club record £30m & now willing to smash that & offer Chelsea £40m for Colwill & yes whilst those in's are off set by outs they are quickly changing their model.

Issue 3, With big signings also come the start of big wages for those new signings, which then causes a rumble within the existing group so new contracts are dished out to those that are already there & wages spiral which they have to to keep players.

Even a competent board will end up struggling with the pressures to push that top 6 when you don't have a bottomless pit

I think just enjoy it Brighton try & sail that wave for as long as you can but ultimately know it will break & the next hotstuff will take your place.

From the Sunderland Echo:

Newcastle are set to appoint Leicester City finance director Simon Capper as the club’s new chief financial officer, according to Mail Online. Capper has spent the past 12 years at the King Power Stadium having previously worked in the same position at Sheffield United.

Some great news for us at last!  Did a fantastic job with our finances.

Was one of the interview questions - "How did you manage to overspend on FFP to get promotion and get away with it? “

Him saying trust the academy after the new manager has signed knowing he won’t be giving him shite to spend

Absolutely right. The man's a charlatan.

Still telling everyone that Kane's not for sale, and only wants to give Brentford half of their valuation for Raya. If he's in for any of our players, he'll try and pull the same stunt with us.

He will be just making it easier for Newcastle if they want madders as they won’t bid what we want for him if he is making statements like that. New manager doesn’t stand a chance

He's not a charlatan they're just skint.

Been saying this for years, it's the same as Arsenal. Arsenal spent a metric F tonne on building the Emirates and it set them back a decade or more in the transfer window. They opted for short term pain for long term gain.

Spurs can't buid a half a billion pound new fancy stadium (AND get hit by covid) and expect to be able to keep spending Champions League kinda money on transfers, especially when they aren't even in the Champions League.

They're going to have to tighten their purse strings for a while.

Also the idea / narrative that Levy is some kind of spector because he’s not acting completely recklessly has always felt a bit off to me.

The decision to spend as much on the stadium (which I still think was far too excessive) aside, they're one of the better run clubs in the league.

They've grown their product slowly and gradually from being some average mid table also-rans to being considered an established member of some Big Six and they've done it without billions in oil money.

They sensibly reinvested the Bale money to really secure their place at the Champions League table for years and they'll probably look to do the same again selling Kane.

They're a better run club than most, by and large.

They maybe skint, but they got the final cost of the stadium badly wrong. As for Covid, everyone suffered, and none more so than King Power.

The vitriol towards their chairman from the fans is off the scale compared to ours towards Rudkin and Co.

Can you really class Luton as south?

Don't care about the story at all, but describing Luton as "back south" irked me

Well it's south of Everton. And south of the Midlands, so yeah I'd day it was south.

Yeh with Brighton it will be fascinating to see if they can hang with the big boys without breaking their business model & strategy. The odds are they will eventually have to change and that change they will not be able to afford in the long term as we well know. They could smart peeps in charge so you never know they might suprise us. All they have to do is study our rise and fall and just not make the same big mistakes we did.

as for Luton if they can somehow survive their first season that would be incredible. They will have to learn very quickly how tough and fast this season will be but good luck to them. It’s nice to have some fresh blood in the premier league. Look forward to them beating man utd 4-0 lol.
