An improvement on 8th next season. What’s needed?

There’s quite a few posts tonight claiming that some are happy with finishing 8th, some are, but unhappy with the points tally etc etc.

And the Rodgers in/out debate rages on.

Taking the hypothetical argument that our injury list NEXT season will be ‘normal’ (for want of a better term), what is needed for the club to get back into Europe next term?

It is playing personnel? Is it ‘managerial’ changes? What about tactical changes?

Whats going to make a difference, going forward?

Lets hear the suggestions

Killing off games. Ultimately that's what has let us down. An experienced player in the middle of the park to bring on to close the game out would help us massively

A fully fit defence, especially Fofana and Evans, plus a Jamie Vardy available for 25+ plus games will make a MASSIVE difference.

Add that to Maddison full of confidence.

I've been so frustrated this season, not even bothering with the last few games, but it honestly is minor, rather than major surgery.

As long as we do some fvcking defensive set piece drills.

First and foremost - and Rodgers has acknowledged it many times himself - we need more physicality.

In open play 50/50s but of course especially at set pieces (at both ends).

Better recruitment and fewer injuries would also help.

I think if Rodgers indeed wants a dressing room revolution, then he should start with Kasper. I love the man but if we're giving Rodgers the chance to build he needs to start there. He should make Maddison captain. We need a bastard in the side who can ruffle up the opposition and hold up the ball on the edge of the box, a RW or right side attacking midfielder and a CB

Why would he want a dressing room revolution? And why make Maddison captain? He does not seem like captain material to me at all.

Without trying to sound too cliche but we need to be ‘fearless’ in too many games that have mattered the team have retreated into their shells and have been far too happy and comfortable to take the safe option time and time again.

A bit more physicality and a bit more aggression will sort this team out no end.

Completey agree.

Foxes Never Quit is a massive cliché too, we need more of this.

A think a fit and firing Wilf makes a huge difference. I think if we can see peak Ndidi next season, that will help. Don't ask him to dictate the play or make cute passes because he can't, get Wilf doing what he does best, destroying shit in midfield.

LEADERSHIP is what’s needed!

It’s funny… Wes Morgan was never the most vocal captain, but when he was first choice CB we rarely buckled under pressure.

The player I feel we need is a Neil Lennon type. At his peak he was consistent for us, but also he and Matt Elliott dragged us out of the mud. We are a fair weather team; when it’s going our way we are great but when we are up against it we crumble.

Jordan Henderson at Liverpool is my favourite example of this. In that team he is technically the worst. And yet he is their captain. Why? Because he’s mentally tough and transmits it to his teammates. I’ve seen him berate Sadio Mane after misplacing a pass and I’ve seen him console Trent Alexander-Arnold after a defensive mistake.

Either in defence or midfield (or both) we need that type of player. Vardy’s got it, Schmeichel’s got it, but they aren’t at the heart of the team. Evans also has it but is injury prone.

I was hoping Tielemans would grow into this sort of player but hasn’t and I don’t think will. KDH might though.

Lennon and Cambiasso were both leaders and had quality. Kante was a quiet man but led through example. Remember all those comebacks early in the title winning season? We need that mentality back.

Absolutely agree 100% re. Henderson. There’s a reason Klopp has him as captain and regularly plays him, could easily have given it to Van Dijk for example. He’s a real leader in both workrate and vocally.

Off topic but the fact Kane captains England is one of our biggest issues. He’s won nothing, whereas Henderson has, leading one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Just need to find our version. KDH could become that for us, but maybe need someone more experienced for the immediate term. Witsel is maybe our best shout for now

We need to be nastier. I've said it for 4 years now, this team is mentally weak.

We lose games we should draw or even win, when we concede one we look like conceding 2 or 3.

Over the last 5 years we've lost players like Huth, Morgan, Wasyl, Simpson, Fuchs at the back as well as the likes of Drinkwater & King, even Ulloa were all winners. They had that mentality. Even if they weren't as technically gifted as what we have now, they had a better mentality.

Whoever we bring in, needs to have an edge to them. Take no crap and tell their team mates when they've been a bit shit. This current side accepts defeat and sometimes doesn't look that bothered because they've "tried their best" and "done okay". Misplace a pass or a cross and this lot get an arm around them. That chance early in the 2nd half today when Barnes has got Vardy free and instead tries to beat a man, screws up and costs him us a nailed on goal, I'd love to see a proper midfield general bollock him into next week for that. 3 players actually clapped him.

Enough of that shit.

Doesn't he? It's been speculated all over he wants several players and as for maddison

1.) he's our best player.

2 .) it's clear by his post match interviews he has something between his lug holes, he has put in shifts this season when players around him have been doggo, he's one player who seems hungry for wins and we should build a team around him imo

Really tough league and will be harder next season assuming Newcastle spend big, Villa strengthen, and Everton can't possibly be as bad. First, players who stay have to improve as Maddison has this season, and that means Barnes particularly, also full backs need to be settled and play in position. And it can't just be KDH putting the energy in. If Tielemans goes we need a direct replacement and don't seem to have one. Also we need another Evans, an experienced and aggressive centre back, in place of several existing second choices. Last priorities are wings or up front, we can score goals, more quality is always good, but we need to stop conceding so many.

Kasper will stay it would be foolish for us to get rid we are not going to spend 30-50m on a keeper this summer window, priorities has to be CB , central midfield and the elusive Right Winger.

A fully fit defence for a start! The ability to build cohesion and momentum.

A leader on the pitch to spur everyone on and grab games by the scruff of the neck.

Cryochambers for everyone to keep them fit 😆

1. Get rid of Kasper and bring in a keeper who wants to command his area. I’d go Nick Pope

2. A decent centre half, 26-29 years old, ideally with PL experience, to play alongside Fofana when Evans is injured (50% of the season)

3. Someone to play on the right wing who isn’t being massively crowbarred into the position (22-26 years old)

This would all improve our first team, as would an improvement on the injury situation, obviously.
