Commentator says fans aren’t happy but what about to behave so appalling?

It's in their genes.

This is exactly what Australian football didn't need.  Just as they got a bit of foward momentum after the world cup they mess it up with scenes like this.

They were throwing smoke "bombs" at the keeper, so the keeper lobbed one back into the crowd and then of course that gives them the right to smash down the hoardings and run onto the pitch lol

Bogan aussies everywhere!

Video from a fan of the whole incident

It'll be OK, but i do think they really need to take strong action because it will happen again if they don't, there have been numerous problems before this match and little done about it.  there was barely any security inside the ground despite the authorities knowing there would be protests inside the ground with tensions already running high.

There are talks of a 2nd league with possible promotion/relegation to the A league, this would be great as there is a huge pool that was abandoned when the NSL disbanded, in fact plenty of fans believe a 2nd tier could be better supported than the A league.

With that announcement and the aussies doing so well in the WC they were riding a wave of positivity that soccer in Australia needed, and now this.

Clamp down on the idiots and soccer can still boom in Australia just like it has in the states.

Part of the issue with the second tier is that it would be based on the diaspora clubs and that’s a recipe for moments like this occur. As a result the A League went with creating generic franchises when they have increased the league size but it’s tough to create teams out of nothing.

Yes I agree its risky especially given the past crowd problems, if they can police it better than I think they can really have a great exciting scene over there with packed stadiums, whether they have the money or resources to do this I dont know.

Little snowflakes in the crowd the actual definition of being able to dish it out and not take it. All lobbing smoke at him, he chucks one back and they're storming on like it's an outrage trying to 475847363647 vs 1 him like big brave blokes.

Fvcking hell.

There is so much to unpack in this incident and the footballing authorities here in Australia need to take a look at themselves, the individuals involved and both clubs before taking some string action.

To give the background, tension was high already in crowds all over the country after the APL sold the rights to the grand final to Sydney. imagine the scenes if Man Utd had bough the right to host the FA Cup final for the next 3 years. For many fans here this was the final straw in a long list of money first fans last decision made and protests with fans walking out at the 20 minute mark of each A League game this weekend.

Add to this the kick off time of 7:45 on a warm Saturday evening - prime tv money rather that thinking about the history of this fixture and the drinking all day before hand.

The supporters throwing flares between each other, both sets of supporters were behaving appallingly, with City supporters chucking flares onto the pitch after their goal.
Tom Glover needs a huge ban for his role in this incident. What was he thinking? An already agitated crowd, throwing the flare back into the crowd was beyond stupid and he needs to take a long hard look at his actions here.

The morons who then invaded the pitch, all need life time bans given to them and hopefully strong criminal action is taken against the person who assaulted Tom Glover.

There are numerous situations going on here, and much reflection is needed. Crowds at Australian games have been steadily falling over the last three or four seasons and the hope was a strong Australian performance at the World Cup would start to reverse that trend, this incident combined with dreadful leadership from the APL has undone any of the success of the World Cup.

There is some weird mentality switch that a scary number of people have where they pay to get into an event (sports match, concert etc) and they think it gives them the right to act in any way they please. Should be a life ban from any ground in any country (near impossible to police, sure) whether you're throwing buckets, coins, bottles, food, whatever
