I’ve always had some enthusiasm for the World Cup (and Euros) as they approach but days away from this starting and I haven’t got any. No idea what the fixtures are and without looking, couldn’t say when England are playing.

I don’t know if it’s the fatigue of the last couple of seasons with Leicester, the fact it’s in the US or the kick off times, likely all 3.

But yeah, it’s a shame.

It's felt like a strange build up.

Part of me is really excited as it's such a big event, but then at the back of my mind I'm concerned the negativity of USA hosting most games will overshadow the football.

The first game should be amazing with a good crowd, I just hope it plays out similar throughout the rest of the group games and it doesn't feel like an anti climax with more of a pre season, or a lesser tournament feel.

Given that I live about 45 minutes from downtown Toronto and a big football supporter you'd think I know when the world cup kicks off? I don't lol. This is the oddest world cup for some reason and I'm not too hyped about it.

I'm sure that i will get into it more once it actually kicks off but had no idea that the first game was kicking off on Thursday.

With all the crap going on in the world, how the US is treating Canada i suppose i'm checked out a bit. Let's face it most of the matches are in the states so I dont care to see them succeed. Petty, perhaps.

The authorities are fully responsible for the situation regarding Eriksen. Who is Eriksen to demand professional contracts and professional football after what happened before?

It looks like this sport is so corrupted everyone can bend strict rules.

Thankfully he's alright and he was saved by the device which started to operate after another cardiac arrest. This is why the player felt the shock which was mainly caused by the fitted machine.

he met every insurance criteria.  This wasn’t supposed to happen again. No one bent any rules.

Yeah it’s just a joke tournament.

Hopefully the next World Cup (Spain/Portgual/Morocco) will be better although a bit of a farce it’s also got some games in South America. South America is a good host continent don’t get me wrong, but it feels a bit too spread out. Unfortunately 2034, Saudi will probably be crap and in the winter again.

Euros look ok, UK and Ireland 2028 and Italy/Turkey in 2032.

I've only watched a full England men's game once in the last ten years and that was only because it was on in the waiting room when I took my late father to a hospital appointment in 2018.  I tuned into the Euro final against Italy as it felt like a national event I should watch.  I switched off after ten minutes as I realised I just wasn't interested, even though England were leading.  I still don't know what happened after that, other than England clearly didn't win as I would have heard about it if they had.  I tuned in for Tuchal's first match but again only watched a few minutes - I don't watch the Premier League or Champions League so didn't know half the players on the England team, let alone the opposition.

But I keep having this thought that maybe I'll watch some of this tournament.

And then I remember it's mostly in America, it's environmentally horrific and I'll probably know less than 20 players in the whole of a bloated tournament run by a corrupt organisation.  So I go from thinking I might watch it to already being heartily sick of hearing about it, and back again.  I think ignoring it is going to win though.

I was already corrected by another fellow member yesterday who reminded me that Eriksen isn't allowed to play there because of his condition.

That said, If you believe it was logical to play under this serious condition I rest my case. For me it's bonkers and it seems that Italians were absolutely right not to allow him there again.

I also don't quite understand what you mean by this wasn't supposed to happen again. Does Eriksen have some special agreement with God or he thinks he will live forever because of the fitted device?

France playing Norn Irn'd, last game before they fly out. France have so much in their favour already in this tournament with how the fixtures have fallen into place. Hope they don't walk it again like in Russia, annoying how often they're competing for trophies these days.

Northern Ireland commentators always commentate like its a world cup final lol

It made me laugh how pissy the co commentator got when Upamecano literally had blood coming out of his mouth and he was moaning about the inconsistency of stopping the game lol

It feels like England's problems are often more psychological, than team ability.

Maybe the media outlets don't help.

Then again, the players should try to ignore the hype/critical view points. Probably hard to l guess.

Plenty of foreign manager's have been very surprised by how everything is so magnified.

I think you're correct though, by the way.

So the one at the "Butchers" didn't deserve empty stadiums?

I think most westerners wouldn't disagree with that.  What's shocking is how the US government is treating it's citizens, foreign nationals and countries around the world given they are "western" and the Saudis aren't. I know the US have always been bullies but this is bullies on drugs of all kinds. Hope it's an epic failure money wise for them.
