Enthusiasm in the face of reality is a good thing sometimes. Go you, MickyBlue. We are building a solid Championship team - its like Knockaert and Mahrez all over again. Bristol City in September are not going to know what hit them. Get on this Arm, get on it.
FoxesWalk Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 Maybe we are deliberately signing left wingers? Has been happening for so long now it’s hard to conclude anything else. Maybe the plan is to have a creative midfielder on the right like Perez, Praet (who is gone I think) or Maddison and an out and out winger on the left. We have overlapping right backs, where as at left back the defender is more conservative?
kingfox Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 After having time to digest this possible transfer... If we are spending over £10 million for him, when you could get Tsygankov, Willock or Bowler for around the same or less, then our recruitment team is well and truly incompetent. We lost out on Lookman, now we want a guy who is behind Lookman in the pecking order at Atalanta, such an illogical move. If this potential transfer ends up being a loan, then I’d be slightly more ok with it, if it’s a permanent for over £10 million then I might have to jump off the top of The Summit on Jarrom Street. 4

Atalanta paid £20m to make his move permanent this summer… so if it’s a permanent deal it’s going to be north of that 1

Not sure about his end product though. How hard is it to find a right sided player ffs. Unreal isn't it! Here's a list below, which spans the market, in terms of widely accepted value (as I have no idea of our budget!). All would be better than the current option that we have, which is no option at all! Ismalia Sarr - £25m Adama Traore - £12.5m Adnan Janazai - Free Get on with your job Rudders, and i'll get back to my own! hurry the **** up 1
lcfc_forever Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 Makes no sense unless it's a cheap deal, for example a loan, that doesn't impact our budget for a RW. Ideally we have backup for Barnes but a genuine RW is a bigger priority.
Edingleyfox Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 Sky sports saying we are looking at a number of right wingers 1
RonnieTodger Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 Adama Traore would probably be a disaster but I’ll be sad if we don’t sign him 1

LCCFox96 Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 I don't like this one at all. There are red flags all over this for me, for a number of reasons: - It feels like Rodgers going back in for a familiar player he knows from his Chelsea days which makes me nervous - This boy has had one relatively good season in the last 5 years and is now 25 years old - it's like Ghezzal Mark II: In 17/18 he got 2 goals and 3 assists in 35 Championship appearances for Birmingham City In 18/19 he got 3 goals and 1 assist in 27 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo In 19/20 he got 11 goals and 4 assists in 34 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo - Fair play, a good season In 20/21 he got 4 goals and 2 assists in 27 Serie A appearances for Sassuolo so his form fell off a cliff again In 21/22 he got 2 goals and 4 assists across 34 appearances in all comps for Sassuolo and a loan spell at Atalanta - Atalanta have signed Lookman - who I would happily have had back - and he has immediately displaced Boga suggesting this is a potential downgrade. - He's played the vast majority of his games in his career at LW, including 80% in his only good season, so he does not help the required balance in the squad for an effective RW to compliment Barnes on the left. - I don't like the fact he's just moved to Atalanta for 22mil Euros, even if that loan clause was an obligation, and they instantly are looking to move him on. If it's a permanent deal that suggests we are preparing a similar sized offer to pick up someone who they don't want. The only positive is that I'd prefer him to Amine Harit if it's a loan deal. I'm really hoping this is a bullshit rumour and we're looking at a more effective, consistent and exciting prospect like Gakpo. 3 1
Finnegan Posted 31 August 2022 Posted 31 August 2022 At this point I'd be happy with a RW loan. Lookman/Under sort of move again. No obligation, just get a body in, get this season done and focus on finding a proper winger in January or June. 3

So would I, but Boga has played the overwhelming majority of his 250 career games at LW (57%) and CAM/CF (37%). He's only played 6% of his career games at RW. In his only decent season in Italy he started consistently at LW. Of course that's only based on a quick scan online, but I don't see how he solves any problems for addressing the need for an effective RW. I'd be okay-ish with it on a loan to cover Barnes, but I'd want a better quality RW in permanently or on loan with an option on the other side. It doesn't feel like a priority to me.

He was just an example as well and it's besides the point anyway. Boga isn't the answer to our RW problem. He doesn't play there and has had one season where he's eclipsed 10 G's+A's. This signing - whether loan or permanent - would make me extremely nervous if this was the guy coming in as our only winger.

To clarify, sorry, I meant instead of buying Boga. Just go and get some up and coming youngster on a loan at RW and leave it at that, even if we can't negotiate an option or anything. We just need a decent body who's a specialist and save our money for later. If Boga is the best we can find let's not buy. @Babylon has been right about one thing, not buying someone is better than buying someone crap. 2

Ah I see, apologies I misunderstood, and saw this and replied to it before I clocked your react to my initial post. 100% aligned with you. Get someone who 1) plays the position we're targeting, 2) has a higher ceiling or a proven record of being more effective, and 3) offers a deal where we won't be arseholed by an Italian club 1
