I want us to win, even if it prolongs Brendan here. We badly need points because without some very soon a new manager might have his work cut out on saving us.

Wins are the most important thing right now, whether with or without Rodgers. I am not into this idea that some suggest, where losing might be beneficial as it gets rid of him quicker. We need to get away from the bottom and fast. I still think his time here is over, just a matter of when. If we win games in the meantime, as unlikely as that sounds right now, then good!

Brendan Rodgers Pre-match Press Conference vs Aston Villa

Tuchel sacked?

“In terms of Thomas, he has had a really successful 18 months there. Football moves quickly and I’m not privy to what goes on behind the scenes but it’s disappointing. He’ll go away and he will get a very good new job.”

Potter to Chelsea?

“It’s not totally confirmed but that looks like the next step for him. It’s a different pressure. He’s done fantastic at Brighton, they’ve really developed. They’re strategically well run behind the scenes. It’s that next step and it that comes off it will be a fantastic move for him.”

Best chance to get win this weekend?

“Every game is that opportunity. We’ve had a good week. It was a tough weekend. We come away and analyse the game. It’s cutting out the mistakes. We have started well in every game which tells you the motivation is there. We need to deal better with adversity. I’ve no doubts the results will come.”

Gerrard?

“Steven has gone in and there has been a lot of changes. Steven needs time to work and get everything in place. He will progress really well with Aston Villa.”

Missing leadership?

“It’s a collective. It’s not about one player. We feel we have had enough really good moments. We should have won games and had better results. I see the players and see their spirit and competitiveness. We need to channel that into getting results.”

Missing Kasper?

“It’s hypothetical. He’s moved on, so it’s one I can’t answer.”

Injuries?

“There’s nothing new.”

Daka and Iheanacho?

“For me it’s the other side. In terms of goals, we have been fine. We just need to be defensively better. Scoring goals, I’m not concerned with.”

How turn it around?

“It’s something we work on every day and the players have been brilliant. We haven’t been down. It’s certainly challenging, this run. We have to continue to work hard. There’s no magic formula, you have to take your medicine. I believe a win is around the corner and that will be a big relief. Then we can move on.”

How do you keep going during difficult period?

“My career has been built on resilience and it’s something you need in this industry. It’s not been plain sailing in my career, so the strength is easy to come by. It’s not easy, but there’s a motivation to get it right. Normally what you find when results go against, you can find a level of betrayal, but I’ve not felt that here. They’ve all been brilliant in their support. We’re all working hard to get back to a consistent. That gives me strength and motivation.”

What do you mean by betrayal?

“Normally there are conversations that can take place. But not here. We’re all on the same page. Now it’s not going so well, we are still working together.”

Ever thought about walking away?

“No.”

Conversations with hierarchy?

“Been very supportive. I’m not daft. I understand football. It’s not been a great start at all. Their support shows the level of work that has gone on, and an appreciation of the difficulties of the summer. It’s my responsibility to help improve the results.”

What's your responsibility?

“Everything. You take the responsibility of the results. I’ve spoken because I am the only one who speaks. I give you an honest answer."

Soyuncu?

“I see the players train every day and I make the judgement on it.”

What do you want from supporters?

“It’s the support of the team is critical at this stage, when confidence isn’t at the highest level. They get that every day, so it’s transferring that to the stadium. We have to generate that.”

Faes visa?

“He’s available, yeah.”

Know why you've conceded most points from winning position?

“Not really. We’ve made mistakes in games. We hope we can improve on that.”

Is there a point you're trying to make with comments on transfers/fans?

“Firstly, I don’t know what feathers have been ruffled. There’s no intent to do anything of the sort. I am speaking honestly on the situation. I’ve never said anything that I haven’t said within the football club. I’ve been open about where the club is at. Top put the situation across very well in the programme notes.”

Need to consider what's said in the media and what's been said in-house?

“I don’t need to do that. I speak openly with the players. Nothing that’s ever said here will not have been said to the players, likewise the board. The communication is open. I think have been balanced. I was asked if I was happy about that and I think every manager would say the same thing.”

Set-piece coach?

“Lars (Knudsen) came in last week, so he’s been appointed.”

We've said this before but don't think he survives a defeats this weekend.

Scoring first hasn't been much use to us so far this season but if we go a goal behind I fear the worst.

For me, fans should leave their groans and boos until the end. Not get on the back of a misplaced or backwards pass in the first 5 minutes.

Nothing to take umbrage at in there; every bit the bland and utterly pointless press conference that they always are. (Seriously, what is the point of them?)

I look forward to seeing a lot of umbrage being taken regardless though!

I think most of us take umbrage at the fact that Rodgers was still involved in it!

Okay, and fair enough, but the content itself was pointlessly, almost comically, bland. I just don’t get why these press conferences (or post-match interviews) exist!

we're not exactly creating a lot though are we Brendan.

Daka and Iheanacho?

Sounds like he going back to Vardy up top alone. Maybe he'll go 5 4 1 in an effort to make the defence sturdier, because goals are apparently guaranteed regardless.

Agreed, it was very vanilla and bland

Dismissing the efforts of Iheanacho and Daka was a bit harsh, but the two of them are used to him not respecting them anyway.

Exactly this.

Could have said 'yep the 2 lads who are given no opportunity or even thrown into good situations did really well. They stepped up and bagged a couple. I'll back them to do the same this weekend'........instead it's 'never mind the strikers. I know we have the least amount of touches in the opposition box ....my managerial skills only stretch to worrying about one thing at a time'.

Hmm weird reply, i would have thought he would have said something more on the lines of 'ofc we miss Kasper, he was part of the furniture'

Thats honestly such an odd thing for a  manager to say. Basically demotivating every forward at the club to improve

Let's face it he's not concerned with anything or anyone but himself!

Saturdays game postponed because of her majesty, next Saturday vs Spurs postponed due to transport strikes. He's here until after the international break.

It might be easier now to sack him.

Think Palace - Brighton was merely cancelled because of the nature of the rivalry seeing how it would have left 1000s of Palace fans stranded in Brighton.

They didn't cancel Newcastle's game down in Brighton when there was a strike.

On another note, if the Queen passes at any time before Saturday I'd assume the entire weekend is in the bin?

He didn’t actually dismiss them. He just didn’t take the opportunity to praise them. Probably because he was in defensive mode, expecting all questions to be criticisms and so hearing and responding to them as such.

In fact he effectively said that we have no problems up front, which is pretty much complimenting all the forwards.

But he can't play them AGAIN... get real!

All they ever do is score goals when he has to play them!

It's not the way Brendan likes to play!

It's not adhering to the tried and fai.... Errr.. trusted "death by possession" way!

I sadly think its gonna be :

Ward ☹️

JJ

Amartey ☹️

Ndidi ☹️

Evans

Thomas ☹️

Maddison

KDH/Soumare

Tielemans

Barnes ☹️

Vardy

I expect Faes will be on the bench, Soyuncu to still be in the c**t book, and Nacho/Daka to get 10 mins to pull us back from 0-2.

God help us .

Ps.. Vanilla isnt bland its 'kin delicious!

I could be just reading into it to much, but the fact the BBC and sky news reporters are in black suggests we won't be down the KP tomorrow.
