I’m not a stout royalist by any stretch of the imagination, however, you can’t deny she served her people with dignity, integrity and the upmost respect. If you’re of such stature, the people would expect at the very least a genuine sincerity in their work, and she never compromised this.

Was privileged to shake hands with the Queen, my grandad was a Chelsea Pensioner and chose me to be his guest at a diamond jubilee event at Buckingham Palace, being a typical Yorkshire man when she did a walk around he went up to her and said" I would like you to meet my grandson ma'am "

Well they’re saying she died earlier this afternoon on bbc. I assume that they waited until all were there before they announced it.

A highly honourable person in a world with too few such people, particularly in positions of power. Respect.

 

Life, history and the country will move on - and can move on in good directions in due course - but I can't help feel, in the short-term, this will add to the feelings of turbulence and uncertainty already existing in the UK for other reasons.

Helen Mirren had it spot on - you don’t have to be a Royalist to be a Queenist. Desperately sad news, whatever one’s political opinions. A remarkable person who was dignity personified. 😞
