Leicester ‘won over’ by player who left Nottingham Forest in summer – ‘Actively looking’ in that position
By Sean Lunt -3rd November 2022

Leicester City have been ‘won over’ by former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba’s performances for Lens this season.

That’s according to Media Foot, who say the goalkeeper could make a return to England with the Foxes in the near future.

They explain that Samba has been ‘an excellent player’ for Lens since arriving in the summer after playing a ‘heroic’ role in Nottingham Forest’s return to the Premier League last season.

He chose to return to France rather than pursue his dream in England, moving to Lens in a €5m deal, the biggest in the French side’s history.

It’s a choice that has paid off, with Samba one of the best goalkeepers in Ligue 1 this season and Lens currently second in the table.

That’s caught Leicester’s attention, who are following his performances ‘closely’, according to the website’s information.

They are ‘attracted by his profile’ and Leicester’s scouts have put his name on their list as they are ‘actively looking’ for a goalkeeper ahead of next season.

They’ve been less than impressed with Danny Ward’s performances this season and seemingly want a replacement to build on for future seasons, as they did with his predecessor Kasper Schmeichel.

Options such as Alban Lafont and Odysseas Vlachomidos are also being looked at alongside the former Nottingham Forest star, with the Foxes on the hunt for a new number one.

I think you could see Forest were going to struggle as soon as they let him leave.  Such a bizzare move and a sign that they simply thought the grass would be greener.  He had a really impressive record, im sure hed be decent

Mmm I don’t know. We were shite in the cup game but Iheanacho still scored off of this guy’s ridiculous decision making

Would like to think that we'd be after a genuinely very good goalkeeper. Is he even that much of an improvement on Ward?

Interesting we are looking a lot at France. Probably a result that transfer fees are generally lower there.

It’s a good market, I’d argue our shopping should be mainly done from there, Holland, Belgium and the championship.

Albon Lafont is the keeper we should be looking at in Ligue 1 though!

it’s nothing new and obviously we’ve had our best success with that (mahrez, kante, fofana)

No. Why would he even come here? Didn’t he leave forest and a chance at the prem because he missed France?

Nah apparently it was because in terms of what he helped the club achieved he felt they offered him a crap new contract

From The Athletic:

Forest only recently made an attempt to extend those terms, through a proposal that is believed to have been deemed by the keeper as unacceptable.

Samba’s decision to turn that offer down and reluctantly seek an exit was said not to be financially motivated but about respect for his achievements, importance and popularity at the City Ground.

Clearly doing a great job in Ligue 1. If he's going to be a genuine, long-term improvement on Ward and Iversen, then fair enough.

But Ward has been turning a corner recently. As much as I want to see what Iversen can do, I do also want to see how far Ward can go here.

Much rather we go for a keeper that is 25 or under, or at least try Iversen first

Get it right and we could have a keeper sorted for a long time again like with Kasper or that we could command a much higher fee down the line

Pass. I cannot emphasise enough that signing players over the age of 25 really is pointless if we genuinely want to progress and maintain that progress. The exception being a quality experienced player who will be cheapish and offer value on and off the pitch in the short term.

....I do not know much about this player, but a Goalkeeper over 25 years is nothing in position!!!

Kasper was still playing Prem. football at 34, 25 is nothing in the position. As for outfielders, it is hard to know where the value starts and finishes, there is always going to be a player who is just right for the role, we do not need to put age in the way of someone who will make us whole.

As an exception id agree, but if we pack the team with players of no resale value, we will circle around and around.

Samba is dodgy as hell anyway so should be a miss for that reason anyway :D

Surely our first choice?
