What positions should we prioritise for new signings?

- Tete would be my preferred choice and I think we might get him. Out of favour at Lyon and unlikely to get back in because they play with wing backs not wingers.

- Benjamin Borgeaud of Rennes. Was surprised we didn’t sign this guy in the summer. No resale value but I think he’s be a great player to have. 
 

- Tsyganov. Your favorite! Not sure his morale would be the best but on his day a great player. Mudyk of Shakthar is the best winger in that division but priced at 60m… but wouldn’t mind seeing Tsyganov here. 


- Ricardo Horta of Braga. Looked good against us a few seasons ago in Europe and very consistent. 

 

- Robert Skov of Hoffenheim might also be a shout. Again an awful World Cup but a steady player who can finish. 
 

FYI in my spare time I did some highly scientific research and played Football Manager signing some of these players. Buying Szilai and Skov I won the league! Szymanski was good. Madueke was hit and miss, Borigeaud and Tsyganov were flops. Could never get Horta.

I don't want to have to compromise on the elusive right winger we so badly need, I feel we ought to prioritise it that much that breaking our transfer record if needs be shouldn't be ruled out. However, given we've yearned so long for the Mahrez replacement and we've financial question marks, as well as needing to improve other positions as well then I'm looking for value or attainability which probably rules out the likes of Marcus Edwards and Berardi.

 

Tete and Tsygankov have uncertain futures and contracts that make them both financially viable but likely to be easier to land as well. Lyon seem to have started mucking Tete about and if we could get Shakthar to agree to selling him to us then he'd be the stand out choice.

 

Tsygnakov's contract is up in June and therefore he is the most obvious choice and would cost less than £15m. 3 years ago it was unthinkable that he'd still be at Kviv and not in a top 5 European League and it's not as if he's nose dived form wise, he's still the same as ever. I'd love him here, he's got that talismanic aura about his game and his set piece and long range shooting, as well as his pace and trickery on the right would compliment our attack ridiculously. 

 

Ludovic Blas is another whose contract status will be causing some nervousness at Nantes and will be wanting to cash in. He's not an out and out winger but more of a left footed attacking midfielder who likes to drift all over, his dribbling and skill is Mahrezesque and I think him and Maddison could be a nightmare to defend against as they dovetail between playing RW or as the central ACM/10. He'd cost £15m max and has proven himself over a number of seasons now in France.

 

Dango Ouattara and Zakaria Aboukhlal are having excellent seasons in Ligue 1 and are very unpredictable right wingers, probably prefer Aboukhlal ever so slightly more than Ouattara for his flamboyance but Ouattara has the better end product so far it seems. Hard to predict whether they'd be reasonably priced, Aboukhlal has only just left AZ to join Toulouse so it might be he's not going to transfer until the summer at least. 

 

Samuel Chukwueze has been talked about for a few years now, briefly linked with us before bigger clubs have been tagged as being keen. He's still very inconsistent though which probably makes him more realistic of coming here, I get Cengiz Ünder vibes with him though that he might flop but it does feel his time at Villareal now that Emery has left and they are declining a little, that he's ready to move. Contract up in 18 months makes him gettable IMO for less than £30m.

 

Angelo Gabriel, turned 18 last week and is the talk of Brazil as the latest sensation. He'd be borderline on getting a work permit but according to quite a reliable website he'd just get through. It's long overdue we sign a Brazilian and what better than in the position we so desperately need flair and quality, him or Tete would be a dream. No doubt Man City will snap him up though like they have with Kayky and Savio.

 

Kevin Schade at Freiburg, he's not left footed but I love the way he plays. I think he could fit in here and also cover LW if we ever needed that option and haven't a standalone Barnes deputy. No doubt Bayern, Leverkusen or Dortmund will get him soon though.

 

Noni Madueke has had a horror time with injuries and indiscretions and he's probably now more attainable than when we tried to sign him 18 months ago. He'd surely only be of interest on loan with an option to buy and if that was suitable to both parties then I could well see it happen and I'd still be very keen as keep him fit and he seems perfect for what we need and he'd adapt to the PL comfortably IMO. A large loan fee on an 18 month deal with a fixed fee of £15-20m afterwards would do it.

 

Velez Sarsfield have two wild card left footed right wingers in Julian Fernández and Luca Orellano. Both would be big punts as they are erratic but seemingly done better in the Copa Libertadores in 2022 than domestically. These are the sorts of signings I'd like to see us take more of a risk on by flipping enough players ourselves to have the final cial flexibility to take risks.

 

Finally Andreas Skov Olsen at Club Brugge, he had a rough time at Bologna but has dropped down a class and has ripped it up in Belgium and consequently delivered in the Champions League too which suggests he's still got the ability to be in a top t league. He's very versatile and Club Brugge are a great club to follow as they recruit brilliantly.

Great list @Ric Flair! I thought I would leave the French league to you 🤣!

 

France tends to be where we sign a lot of our players from these days as players from there seem to settle in our league pretty well. Even Soumare who was poor for long periods has started to look good. Unless Madueke is available that’s where I think we’ll go again too. Tete might not be French, but he is playing there :ph34r:
 

I just hope they don’t undercook the signing this time. We went for players like Soyuncu, Tielemans, Ndidi, Fofana with real conviction. At RW it’s always been on the cheaper end with the exception of Perez who IMO was never the sort of player we wanted him to be. Sign someone who is used to playing in a 433 / 4231 as an RW, not someone who plays in a different role.

We'll be able to cope with our CB situation and the midfield situation for now, we've still got Cags and Vestergaard at the club as well as Wilf who can drop back into defense. It's obviously not ideal but it'll make do until July.

Yes, I guess it's about choices. We do badly need a RW but I'm old school and believe you build from the back.

I just read BR has said we'er looking at the LB and RW positions in this window which is a smart move.

Cags and Vesty will likely go this window so that means Evans and NDiddi providing the cover at CB at least until Ricardo is back then we also have Big Dan as CB cover. Though NDiddi hasn't been himself for while now pre injury. I think he has too much going on in his life right now aside from Football.

 Soumare has been getting stronger in the Midfiled position and offers more going forward.  So for now I don't see NDiddi replacing him unless we want to provide more defensive cover.

 

If we also get a RW this window, That puts us in a really strong position going forward.

 

If it happens I think we'll have a real good second half to the season, Both in the League and Cups.

 

Which will be some contrast to our dubious start to the season.

Starting to look like we need an entirely new 25 man squad. 
 

Atm I only think KDH, Faes and Barnes are a combination of good enough, want to be here, and likely to be here in 2 years time. Players like Madders, Tielemans, Castagne are probably too good to be at a team that’s going to be around 10th. Soumare and Daka don’t look like they’re working out atm, not suiting our style of play and just showing a lack of quality, but can see them both doing better abroad. 
 

Players like Thomas, Iversen & Amartey aren’t good enough to be first team players and ideally they wouldn’t play often, but aren’t the worst players to have as squad options. At the end of the day, we aren’t good enough or rich enough to have quality players in all positions so we have to accept we’ll have some poor players. 
 

Over the next 18 months I think we’ll end up needing to replace 15-20 players.

This is actually the biggest concern for me.  This squad needs a top to bottom overhaul and with our recent recruitment and seeming lack of funds that terrifies me.  Hope Top finds a few spare mill down the back of his sofa.  

 

I don't believe Rodgers is getting near enough out of what we have got, but what we have got also looks distinctly shite in so many positions.  With the sprinkling of real quality surely looking to leave as soon as possible/out of contract imminently January and next summer are going to be absolutely critical.

LB is so important imo we need a proper left footed one anorl. Sorry Thomas is not good enough for the prem yet. Hopefully someone like Truffert from Rennes!

 

CB is an issue but if we offload cags then surely we will get a replacement, pray to god it’s not Keane! Szalai.

 

RW been screaming out for one for years and years! I have a feeling it’s berardi for some reason been linked in the past but we all know it’s going to be this Boga lad.

Getting a LW who’s decent would either make or brake Barnes imo. He needs some strong competition to push him!

Iheanacho cant play up front on his own. He’s a great player but we end up more unbalanced with him in the team so I understand why he’s not playing. That said, we can’t do any worse than yday so can’t hurt trying him again.

If Alves wasn't injured I would have blooded him in the PL.

 

I'd agree but I think we should go looking for rough diamonds.

 

Our options wide are horrible, without Barnes we have no pace in wide areas.
