Everton make enquiry for Lorient winger Dango Ouattara amid interest from Leicester - as Frank Lampard seeks reinforcements this month with relegation battle looming

This was written up in the French press - https://www.getfootballnewsfrance.com/2023/everton-and-leicester-submit-bids-for-lorient-winger-dango-ouattara/

Not clear what the truth is here and who has bid as different sources are used.

Nothing ever changes. West Ham will be next to show interest.

Worth mentioning that this could be Lorient trying to force our hand and meet their price, as these links popped up just days after us having an offer rejected.

Last week at was just us in for him......now Everton and Bournemouth...... unbelievable we really should of been in advanced talks with his club last week then just show an interest.

Also shows the market we’re in for players now….fellow strugglers.

I like your thinking.

I guess there's often an amount of tyre kicking (from both sides) in these deals. We'll have to wait for the dust to settle before we see who's out front (to mix me metaphors)

We’re not very good at negotiating though, the longer the window drags on the more we pay and the fewer options we have

Seriously, I think that's all negotiations. I don't think we're particularly bad (Maguire and Mahrez),  I just think there are elements of bluff and gambit in all deals, selling clubs will understandably go to wire to get the best deals. We fans have no idea which deals the club have walked away from, which we've rejected outright etc.

For me, it's about identifying the right targets prior to negotiation, knowing your options and deciding beforehand just how far you're prepared to go. It's a gamble/lottery how the targets will fair once you get them in. I reckon we do alright under the circumstances.

Tbh, I'm surprised just how much clubs are paying for players at the moment. We've been outgunned before we get to the table. That's why it's so important to identify the right targets.

Nah, we've perennially been linked with players that also get linked with Everton, West Ham, Southampton, Villa etc etc ever since we came back up.

Another daily update, just gone 9am and the guy I thought was the answer to all our RW prayers is most likely going to Bournemouth.

Think this is where we are, a player that would fill a hole that we desperately need, it fits the mould of relatively cheap with possible resale value - it’s likely we can’t afford even these players and it’s not the teams above us bypassing us we need to worry about it’s our relegation rivals.

It's not about the one player, this is the exact same as the summer window, a load of random links that turn in to nothing. BR shouting about lack of funds and the need to make signings to the media. We will end up on the 31st Jan having the same conversations on here about nothing whilst teams around us move forward.

That is messed up but the reality of modern football that a club can owner can leverage his ownership across two teams in this way.
