Iran Posted 24 September 2023 Posted 24 September 2023 Can't believe I had Stoke as one of the dark horses for this season.
LCFCJohn Posted 24 September 2023 Posted 24 September 2023 Hull are a good side. Of all the sides we have played, they are the one with the most names that jump off the team sheet as being familiar. But not old has beens either. Players like Connolly and Greaves to name a couple. That’s from someone who hasn’t just ignored this league for the last few years either! 1

It's all well and good to talk about Southampton being fine when they can Martin, but who knows if they'd do it in time to save their chances. Edited 24 September 2023 by Deeg67
Ric Flair Posted 24 September 2023 Posted 24 September 2023 Liam Rosenior is proving to be a decent manager so far. Sets his teams up to be very difficult to beat. 1

You can see Rosenior, McKenna and Schumacher in particular having decent careers. 5

So many are having a squirt over the prospect of romping the Championship. Well, even if we do, watching us try to break down firmly parked buses in ¾ of our remaining home games may wear thin in a hurry. Granted, it’s great fun going into games confident and seeing that confidence rewarded. It’s normal to enjoy most other clubs’ fans seeing us as a free hit, expecting to lose to what is now a much bigger club. But there’s also much to be said for watching quality football. And for owning the contracts of your players rather than having to sell them at knock down prices and replace them with loans, developing others’ rather than your own. I personally want out, and I want to get back to “boring” midtable stability testing ourselves against the world’s best talent. 3

Impressed with Hull, they’re a decent side, like you say set up properly and are difficult to beat and carry a threat. Stoke are absolutely rancid, like peering into the bowl of a services toilet, puddles of piss, few brown smears on the wall and a couple of nuggets that wont flush. Horrible football team. 2

Solid and unspectacular is often enough to get out this league. Second bit, you can can have a really slow start to the season and still smash this league with so many games. They probably can’t afford to keep him longer than mid-November, but the longer the keep him the more it’ll be like us when Rodgers went where we were beyond repair.
MattFox Posted 24 September 2023 Posted 24 September 2023 Don’t think Stoke have threatened at all since getting relegating Not sure what’s gone on there as they were always pretty well run

Basically they weren’t that good when he joined but got then promoted. Then he left as they wanted to go in a different direction in terms of style and approach but it’s gone wrong since then really .
JimJams Posted 24 September 2023 Posted 24 September 2023 Also Rodgers undoubtedly had an ego but he had won something and got two high placed finishes. Wtf has Martin done?

People are very dismissive of how well we are doing because of our financial situation in relation to most of the league. However, Stoke in 2018 prove that spending doesn't guarantee success. Chelsea at the moment are a more high profile example.
Happy Fox Posted 24 September 2023 Posted 24 September 2023 Love that we have an 8 point gap now, hopefully we can pull away from the 3rd spot sooner rather than later.
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 24 September 2023 Posted 24 September 2023 Sunderland look pretty hopeless, and yet they are supposedly one of the better teams in the league.

Jaspa Posted 24 September 2023 Posted 24 September 2023 Stoke are Catagory A for our ticket prices soon. Hull & Preston rated below.

We were saying this about Norwich and Bristol City on the way out yesterday. We're miles ahead of most of the division after a handful of games with a side that's only been together for a few weeks. 4 hours ago, Ric Flair said: Liam Rosenior is proving to be a decent manager so far. They rode their luck vs us but I've seen a lot of their highlights this season and they're definitely a side that's going to get better. Connolly wouldn't look out of place if he was still at Brighton, good movement & still relatively young. 1

BenTheFox Posted 24 September 2023 Posted 24 September 2023 Our win against Cardiff looking like a bigger result than many thought at the time. Also, our defeat to Hull doesn't look so bad either.
