Nolucklcfc Posted 27 June 2023 Posted 27 June 2023 Absolute no brainer if we can get it done. Be surprised that he’s prepared to drop down and he’ll no doubt have prem suitors. exatcly the character we need too, proper leader and not soft as shit

I'm more worried by the trend of Coady, Winks, Steffan. These are experienced players coming from PL clubs on big wages where playing in the Championship is a step down and if we return to the PL aren't the profile of player that will necessarily improve or add squad value for resale and reinvestment. There's always a need for the odd one of these players but in 24 hours the 3 concrete links are all this type of player and alarm bells are ringing. I'd prefer Coady if we had to sign one of him or Winks as a leader though. I’m seriously hoping we are building ourselves like Burnley did last season. They kept a solid experienced core of Taylor, Cork, Brownhill, Gudmundsson, Barnes & Rodriguez, while they added Cullen. Then they signed around 10-12 players that are 24 or under. Hopefully we see a similar pattern with us, but unlike Burnley who already had an experienced core group, we could do with adding 2-3 onto the likes of Ricardo(Assuming he stays), Albrighton, Vardy and players who know the division like Souttar, Choudhury & KDH. But as I said in the Winks thread, hopefully we don’t flood the squad with players from Coady & Winks’ age bracket, because it will do us no good in the long run. 2

Matt Posted 27 June 2023 Posted 27 June 2023 Definitely comes in as Captain for me. We might have had a 'leadership group' for the last couple of years. None of them have been leaders though. I know we've not signed many in the past few years but he's probably the first signing i've been excited by for a long while! 3

Coady has the experience of promotion, leadership character and doesn’t have an injury record. Winks has the experience of winning.. .... Absolutely fvck all 😂
Leicesterpool Posted 27 June 2023 Posted 27 June 2023 A big fan of Coady, seems to always show a lot of enthusiasm and passion wherever he has played. He'd quickly become a fan favourite.
Bryn Posted 27 June 2023 Posted 27 June 2023 We don’t really have the spine of a side to build around and a player like Coady is the start of one. No brainer for me.

We need a complete reset at the club, and that also means a new leader that has come from outside the club. 2

I agree Evans was the better of the two in Harry's second season. Maguire did ok without Jonny in his first. Evans had the happy knack of making all his CB partners look better. Pure quality, when fit. As good as I've ever seen in fact.
Leicesterpool Posted 27 June 2023 Posted 27 June 2023 I'm surprised other lower half premier league teams don't fancy him likes of Burnley, Forest, Sheffield Utd, Palace.

Sounds like they did, but perhaps he knows he will start every game for us. He seems that type of character, someone who would prefer to play week in week out, rather than sit on the bench of a relegation team. Surprised his move to Everton didn't work out though. They had an option to buy too 1

I can see us bring in a mix. What the last 2 seasons showed us was that as the team collectively got older and more experienced, we weren't anymore consistent or better. We got infinitely worse and that wasn't because it was a team bunch of kids. 1

He's already on about 70k a week I heard. Winks has a year to go on 50k a week, he's not coming here for a modest wage. NOT FOR ME CLIVE Guess being the key word! Lots of people 'allegedly' hear lots of things it doesn't make those rumours right either!

Maresca has a reputation for being very good with young players. But he’s also clearly recognised that our problem last season was a lack of character rather than a lack of quality. We’re clearly trying to rectify that by signing some strong leaders. The more exciting signings of younger players will follow. Edited 27 June 2023 by ClaphamFox
Lcfc-1992 Posted 27 June 2023 Posted 27 June 2023 Not having to move house could be a big factor as well? No idea where he lives though.

RowlattsFox Posted 27 June 2023 Posted 27 June 2023 Iverson Back 3 of Justin, Coady, Faes Ricardo and Kristiansen wing backs Winks, Dewsbury-Hall and maybe a Tom Cairney (just because he's been linked) Daka and Iheanacho upfront Sorted 1
