Needs a thread this as it’s becoming quite an interesting development in World football , the quality of player and age of player is a bit younger than others like the Chinese club experiment, that died a death but the Saudi’s know how to do it properly when they start chucking cash at things

is this a direct threat to the EPL ??? All of a sudden it is NOT the worlds richest league, infact the Saudi’s could probably buy the Premier League if it was for sale

how long before they are in the Champions League ???

Israeli clubs are so why not Saudi’s, UEFA and FIFA are easily bought

How ?

Israel play in UEFA competition because historically, a lot of their neighbours refused to play against them. They did not buy their way into competition.

Big premier league clubs must think it's Christmas. So easy to get rid of players they don't want anymore.

trust us to get relegated at just the wrong time ;)

As with the Chinese league it'll never compete with the big leagues in Europe simply because of the history of the European competitions both domestically and continent wide. Regardless of the money, every top player will want to register their name in the CL hall of fame, or have the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona, Bayern, Real, Milan or Juve on their CV.

Essentially what the Saudi League appears to be trying to do is position itself as the best of the rest and compete directly with the MLS. That in itself will be a challenge as the popularity of football in the US appears to be growing at an incredible rate.

I think the Saudi League will last longer than the Chinese attempt but we've been here many times with other leagues and they all eventually fade regardless of how much resource is thrown at it.

I wonder why they didn’t want to play with them

Money talks … Chinese government stopped the money

man city were a tiny club … money made them treble winners

Saudi government will chuck 50 billion maybe 100 billion at this and within 10 years they will be in seen as a serous league ! Money is all that matters to the majority of player

don’t live in the past .. football history is a poor guide to the future

If Hapoel Jerusalem rocked up to play an AFC champions league group stage game in Tehran, there’s a good chance they’d all be murdered.

Laundering dirty money into (sort of) legitimate enterprises.

It's state-based organised crime on a pretty big scale.

NB, Mind you, one might say the money invested into other bigger leagues isn't often clean, either.
