been paying attention to the length of contracts handed out this summer?

Not enamored with those, but they are not on the scale of Vestergaard being signed for the PL when he was miles off that standard given the salary he took. Once relegated, Vestergaard was getting bullied, outmuscled and totally lacked the pace needed in the Championship. When you see what Sunderland was able to sign on promotion, it was a complete embarrassment.

He has basically admitted what we have long suspected.  That he couldn't be arsed and has been taking my the piss out of the club and the fans even up to being paid to leave.

Whatever the opposite of a legend is, he is definitely one of those.

put together this makes them complete and utter shitbags

Won't be a popular view, but he negotiated an end to his contract with us. Most players would've sat out the last year.

Oddly, I have a tinge of sympathy for him. Signed in blind panic after the Fofana leg break yet woefully unsuited to Rodgers high line, made to look foolish and was marginalised by the management (and fans) almost immediately.

He then had a road to redemption and was just about player of the season under Maresca. Before, again, being rumbled, hung out to dry and effectively his career is over.

Yeah he's earned millions from our idiot dof, but, there were times I liked him (Rennes away cameo) and his swagger (arrogance ) under Maresca ....but  he's one of an ever growing list of players the general toxic club atmosphere combined with having to nurse Luke Thomas every week, has managed to  permanently damage.

At a time when draining the swamp was needed, this goes down as one of the worst deals we ever did.

Haha yea it often goes under the radar that we extended his contract 😂 just totally brain dead

More goals than Winks, Ricardo, Faes, Skipp or Monga last season.

It's true.

Doesn't mean he was decent, just didn’t smell as bad as the rest of the turds

Honestly how did we end up with a squad with such attitude problems:

Vestergaard

Faes

Winks

Ayew

Mavididi

And others…

A combo of massively overpaying, offering contracts that were longer than any other club would and not doing our homework.

Equally, I don’t think a couple of them were bad eggs before they arrived. I think the whole situation influenced that.

Cannot get on board with giving this guy any sympathy. He got vastly overpaid for his ability, joining a club he shouldn't never have been able to and acted like a twat at multiple times. Now a few months after sitting on his overly inflated contract, he's decided his heart's not in it, as though it hasn't been for 2 years.

And he wasn't remotely close to being player of the season that year. First half of the season he was good but second half nowhere near that level. His job was so piss easy in that team as well. It showed when we played Chelsea in the cup and it sticks in my mind when Jackson skinned him for a goal; I think it's the only time I've laughed when we conceded a goal it was then embarrassing how he got skinned.

I get these guys are human beings but he's behaved in a way that deserves no sympathy whilst being overpaid. Madness to feel sorry for him

We're 'his club', too. Not in the sense that he likes us but in the sense he played the most for us. Over a quarter of his career games.

Brilliant to get indexed to Jannick like that.

4 years for emil Riis has no upside at all; either we are stuck with someone incapable of getting out this godforsaken division or we have a striker in the championship proven to not be good enough

if / when we go into administration I think these contracts will look even more ridiculous than the vesty extension

Smallest 6,6ft defender ever

Weakest as well. Out muscled by practically every forward he came up against.

And we are discussing this why exactly?

Close thread.

Because he was a big part of our downfall.

To be honest, I prefer this thread than one that turned into politics 👀

Riis is a level about this league. Not comparable to Vestergaard.
