For me his best attributes are workrate / desire / energy… He can tackle and doesn’t shirk a challenge, has average pace / ball skills / shooting.

He’s way more suited to be playing centrally IMHO, he lacks the trickery of a winger, but has the more rounded game of a central midfielder. Or we spend the summer with his back to goal and give him a go upfront.

Find a position that better suits him and his ceiling could be much higher than it is on the wing

you see the types of players they buy right?

they look at the younger ones they can develop and potentially sell on for more

most expensive signing of late has been Isidor for just over £6mil

so saying theyll be fishing in a different pond is pretty weightless when they dont seem to go OTT signing players like they used too

I guess we'll find out.

He is decent enough in the air and his finishing has been good hence his goal return. His positioning is often good as well. Enzo trusted him as he was tactically aware and disciplined with it.

It's his ability on the ball that's his big let down, particularly it played as a winger.

A season in the championship will do him good

he's is more than capable at that level and it should enable him to either kick on and show there’s a v decent player in there or we’ll know that it’s his ceiling.

Hope it’s the former but if you want me to take a punt then I reckon it’s the latter -  would be frustrating because I think a lot of it is in his head rather than his feet.  prove me wrong kasey!!

Looks like a lot of youngsters finding their feet. Just needs an injury free run of games to lift his confidence. Might see a different animal if he gets that.

Seem to remember Jock Wallis playing a youngster on the wing for 50 or so games then switching him to centre forward. Whatever happened to him?

It’s his ability with a football - just slightly edited but still don’t get what he is good at - if it’s fitness and desire we can all put a shirt on as it’s our club - another that has zero ability !

He absolutely does not have the skills to play centre mid. His touch is absolutely woeful and he can't make basic 5 yard passes half the time.

If he has a decent career it will be as a wide player or more likely a wing back

He might do OK I remember he looked very sharp a couple of years ago scored at Liverpool I think but was injured after that,

Wouldn’t rule out another offer from Sunderland

He wouldn’t be a world beater - but has no worse touch / passing than Ndidi

I’d love to see Mcateer and Fatawu as wingbacks.

I think they are both suited to the role and in a 3-4-3 would be perfect. Will never happen though

I just want to see Fatawu back fit and healthy as a winger.

Still don’t know what he is.

Not strong enough to play in the middle.

Not quick or technical enough to be a wing back or winger/inside forward.

Not good enough defensively to be a full back.

He is a work in progress, is what he is.  Still developing.

I remember Barnes coming into Puel's team and looking a bit lost for a while.

I'm not saying that McAteer is going to be a world beater but I think he's a bit better than what we saw last year and let's give him a little more time to grow.

Like Kasey, speaks so well, he cares.

off the ball work rate is great, ok on the ball if instinct live but struggles when time and having to beat a man.

Always thought he could be a decent 9 as he’s quick and a decent finisher.

No way he has average pace. I think this has become his best attribute. He developed massively with his pace, bit like Barnes did.

I think he still struggles with confidence and the ability to use his pace for maximum damage but I think next season with slower full backs he'll be very very handy.

Only issue is he'll have Fatawu and Mavadadi ahead of him but it's a long campaign so he'll get his chances.

He's 100% a winger IMO, has effortless pace -  not so much acceleration but when he gets going I noticed last season there was really no opponent that could keep up with him when he got into stride.

I think next season could really build his confidence and we'll have a good asset on our hands for whatever 26/27 brings.

I’ve really not noticed that pace you have - but if it’s effortless maybe it’s one of those languid running styles that’s deceptively quick - I’ll watch him more closely!!

If he has got that pace then even more reason to play him through the middle?? I just don’t see him having a trick to get past his full back, but his shooting is ok, he’s strong enough, quick enough (especially given the above) and determined enough. It’s a lot harder to find a striker than a winger so conversion may be an answer to the budget question

He isnt starting ahead of Abdul Stephi or Monga

Get rid or pmay him up front

I'd never previously thought of him as a 9. A 10 maybe. But as many have just pointed out he has a lot of attributes that would work as a 9. Especially, in the modern game where the 9 is expected to link play like 10's did 5/10 years ago.

If he plays more than 900 minutes next season we’re in trouble.

Fatawu, Mavididi, Alves and some combination of Evans/Monga should be playing the majority of games out wide.

If KM can fetch ~£5m+ (could have had twice that!) then it’s great business.
