Leicester outcast Danny Ward thrown Premier League transfer lifeline in boost to Wales goalkeeper’s Euro 2024 chances

The keeper wants first-team football ahead of the upcoming Euros, and may be about to get that in the Premier League

SHEFFIELD UNITED want to throw keeper Danny Ward a Premier League lifeline — and boost his Euro 2024 chances.

The Blades have asked Leicester about their out-of-favour Wales No 1 and boss Chris Wilder is keen on a loan for the rest of the season — with a possible buy in summer.

Ward is keen on the move to boost his chances of winning Wales' no1.

Ward, 30, would leap at the chance to get back into the top flight and also get him ready for the Euro finals if the Welsh make it through the play-offs in March.

The former Liverpool keeper cost £12.5million in 2018 yet is only third choice and Foxes would sell him, ideally.

But a loan may suit them and pledging a full-time transfer would get the deal done.

Ward joining on a temporary deal would also mean one of the Blades’ domestic loan players must go.

Prem clubs can only have two domestic loan players at any one time and they currently have Leicester left-back Luke Thomas and attacker James McAtee from Manchester City.

Thomas is the most likely to be let go.

Blades also looked at experienced Kasper Schmeichel, who is now with Anderlecht in Belgium, but the 37-year-old Dane may be too dear.

If United cannot do a deal for Ward, Cardiff would step in with a rival loan offer.

Lets get real, he isn't walking into the Sheff Utd team and taking Foderingham's place.

We know that, but don't underestimate how poorly Foderingham is considered by them. Was talking with a mate who follows the Blades home and away last week. Asked him if they'd improved under Wilder and he said massively. I then followed up by asking if he thought they could stay up... he paused, laughed, and said not with Foderingham in goal. He reckons he's an absolute calamity and has cost them loads of points this season so I wouldn't be surprised if Wilder has made an enquiry. Whether it'll come to anything is a different matter.

Well, that would be a first !

Astonishing. I mean there can't have been a worse PL keeper in history. He was a 2 goal head start for opponents and we'd still be playing in that division had he never worn the shirt.

Fingers crossed though!

From what I've seen of Foderingham, he's pretty terrible. Whether he's Danny Ward levels of terrible, is debatable.

I'd be amazed, relieved and delighted if we managed to flog Ward.

Agree. He's bloody awful, to the point that they would even consider Ward!

Best hope for us is Ward gets the last few games of the season and somehow plays a blinder in them to keep Sheffield Utd in the division. Cult status, transfer done deal, Leicesters latest miracle.

The footballing God's will it!

I mentioned it in the loan thread the other day. I was told that they’d made an enquiry about either Iversen or Ward. With Iversen leaving it looks like It’s Ward they want. Definitely interest there

This will be agent talk. Sheff U need a keeper and Ward needs a new club. There is zero chance a prem team has any interest in our 3rd (was 4th until iversen left) choice keeper. The were being linked with Kasper the other day

A loan for Ward is a disaster !! They will never buy him once he has played for them !!

This is simple: loan, either obligation to buy if they get relegated!
